The Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) wants the Thailand Pass scheme to be scrapped as of June 1, in order to receive an additional 2 million tourists. It will help Thailand to welcome some 10 million tourists this year.

Vichit Prakobgosol, vice president of TCT, said the Thailand Pass is still a bureaucratic obstacle for incoming tourists. If the Thailand Pass system is withdrawn as early as June, instead of July, the country will be able to receive at least 10 million this year. The number of tourists could even reach 12 million in the best scenario if the Chinese are allowed to travel again. This scenario depends on the Chinese government, especially its stance on its zero-covid policy following a recent surge in infections.

“June and July are important holiday months as families will be planning overseas trips, Thailand needs to prepare to seize this opportunity. So stop the Thailand Pass a month early,” said Vichit.
