Due to a technical problem, payment traffic at four banks came to a standstill yesterday. Cash machines (ATMs) failed and money transfer was also not possible.

The problem started with Kasikorn Bank and then spread to three other banks, because they are centrally linked. According to a message from Krungsi Bank, the problems were due to the large number of transactions. The outage was rather inconvenient because wages are paid on Friday in Tahiland. Long queues formed at the ATMs, but no one could access their money at the time.

The Bank of Thailand disconnected the bank that caused the problems from the central system, resolving the malfunction at the other banks.

Beats. I couldn't do internet banking via Kasikorn for a while yesterday morning.
Tried again around 1300 and then it was resolved.

Another important cause was “pay off” day, millions of Thais always pay via ATMs at the end of the month
their interest/repayments on the loans they have taken out. Joep van 't Hek said it already…….. Borrow, borrow… pay, pay….!!!
