Restaurant in Bangkok has cobra and turtle on the menu list
A restaurant in Bangkok was visited by the police this week for serving protected animals. Seven people have been arrested.
Police raided the restaurant in Want Thong Lang district and found a chopped up cobra in the kitchen that was about to be cooked. Behind the restaurant, the police found a kind of slaughterhouse.
Police also found nine containers of home-made snakehead liquor, the carcass of a pangolin, 22 turtles, four rattlesnakes and a cobra. The rattlesnake is a protected animal. Not the cobra, but capturing is not allowed. Turtles are also protected animals.
The restaurant was owned by a 66-year-old man from Chiang Rai. Six people from Myanmar worked there. The restaurant had been around for eight years, most of the customers were Chinese.

Supply, even criminal, exists by the grace of demand.
I don't understand that there are people who ask for these dishes. And always Chinese. And certainly not, that can remain hidden for so many years. ( 8 years). Or did the controlling authorities want to measure T-money or did the ground become too hot underfoot? ?
There are countless countries where turtles are a delicacy. Examination of the remains of human ancestors dating back 2 million years has shown that turtles were already on the menu back then.
In addition, in China and Japan the turtle is a symbol of longevity and in Asian myth the turtle represents the cosmic order. The shield is the symbol of heaven, the body symbolizes the earth, the lower shield represents the underworld.
The turtle is also a symbol of motherhood and creation.
The turtle wisdom teaches us to live and show perseverance with determination and serenity.
It is therefore not surprising that this dish is sometimes asked for.
Manufacturer Heinz makes turtle soup; just for sale in the supermarket.
Turtle protected?
About 2 years ago I saw a turtle swimming on second road in one of the aquariums of a restaurant where you can choose a fish, turtle, etc. to eat.
There are several hundred different species of turtles, including tortoises and terrapins. The tastiest tortoise is the green turtle, which is therefore most seriously endangered, most often banned, therefore the most expensive, and therefore the most interesting for illegal trade.
This is probably this species.
There are also edible turtles, which are even bred specifically to be eaten, and there are species that are not banned / endangered.
You must have seen it on Second Road.
Pangolins in particular are seriously endangered, I hope that the owner can go to jail for a few years, but I fear that this will not happen.
Will the authorities do something about the mistreatment of elephants?
The so-called pleasure rides on the back of these beasts, including at various places in Pattaya, are a disgrace. Especially when you know how these beasts are treated to become submissive.
Or the photographers who walk around the Central Mall in Pattaya, with baby monkeys. And also a critically endangered species.
