Home » News from Thailand » Phuket wants to open to vaccinated tourists in July without quarantine
We already wrote about it yesterday, but there is a good chance that this plan will be approved, according to the Bangkok Post. The Center for Economic Situation Administration is expected to give the green light to the locally developed plan today.
According to this plan, foreign tourists no longer have to be quarantined on arrival, but they must undergo a PCR test at the airport and activate the ThailandPlus tracking app. The plan can start when herd immunity has been achieved by 70 percent of the island population being vaccinated. For this, the 466.587 residents must receive two injections, which will take about a month.
Energy Minister Supattanapong says he is confident Phuket's tourism infrastructure is capable of receiving 'quality visitors'. Phuket has prestige among international tourists. Local businesses and residents suffered greatly during the second wave of infections due to the lack of income. They have now joined forces and come up with a well-founded plan.
Good news and yes, once vaccinated that seems logical, but from when can we leave Phuket?
We have a house in Khao Lak and would like to stay with us. If that is not possible immediately (unfortunately, because it is also safer), later anyway ...
Has anyone heard anything about that.
Thank you in advance.

Sam, what was Marco Borsato singing again, “Dreams are deceit”?
A friend in Thailand sent me an e-mail this week saying "we're not there yet, don't make any plans before April / May 2022", and that man knows where the clapper hangs.
Hopefully he is wrong but have known him for years and most of the time he is right objectively.
Sorry to have to write this … my “suitcase” is also ready, so to speak …
Let's solve our own problems first because we're not there yet either..
So just wait another year, although one year is relative in function of the time we are allowed to spend on this planet.

Does anyone know what this means when you arrive from NL at Suvarnabhumi airport in BKK? Can you fly straight to Phuket, or do you have to be quarantined in BKK first?
I suspect that, as now, you will have to arrive in Phuket directly from abroad to take advantage of this scheme. Seems completely illogical to me that it would be any other way.
Then you have to quarantine in Bangkok. We have tickets Amsterdam-Phuket and have to quarantine in Bangkok and buy new tickets to Phuket.
Well don't count on it. I recently canceled my trip 'again' in July, luckily I was able to reschedule everything to 2022
Earlier, the Bangkok Post said about this intention that only vaccinees from countries where several new variants of the virus are NOT active are eligible to circumvent the quarantine. That would mean that people from most Western countries still have the quarantine obligation.
It seems that many foreign tourists are eager to travel (again) to Thailand. However, they forget a few things:
1. the country of origin may not want them to travel to Thailand, or even travel abroad at all;
2. When you return to the home country, all kinds of procedures await you (perhaps no longer in quarantine in Thailand, but in your own country when you return);
3. Thailand's tourism product is certainly not the same as before the covid crisis: businesses have stopped, not everything is open everywhere (due to the low number of tourists);
4. the face mask on in public space will be a requirement in Thailand for a long time, certainly until 2022, my expectation is, vaccinated or not;
5. it is not clear whether the returning tourism entrepreneurs will be friendlier or perhaps even less friendly to the returning tourists (more or less scams). Also applies to other entrepreneurs, for example, in retail. Some are watering their lips and are mainly money-oriented, not service-oriented.
Nothing has yet been published in the Thai Official Gazette on this subject. So wait and see is the message. Another remark: it would be about 'safe countries'...... does Europe fall under this? I doubt it with the current situation there.
