Floods threaten Bangkok
More than two million people have been affected by widespread flooding in Thailand. The rainy season seems to be the most extreme in the past 50 years.
Thailand has now been dealing with heavy rain for two months stir and floods. Tens of thousands of people have already been evacuated. Rivers overflow and dikes break. The Thai capital Bangkok is now also threatened by the rising water.
Al Jazeera's Wayne Hay reports from Ayutthaya, one of the hardest hit areas.
The Dutch media are now also reporting on the floods in Thailand. NOS Headlines even opened with it on 3FM.
Just a short overview of the foreign news in the VK-online: Headlines: (as of now)
"
“Happy Feet 2 “spotted” in England.”
"Syrian declared dead on TV, or was it a look-alike?"
“Series, The Playboy Club” flops mercilessly in US”
“Arts paid more attention to women than to Jackson”.
“National strike in Greece” (seems far but still eerily close to home)
“Wrong lottery ticket worth $25 million”
"Donner willing to tackle Curacao hard" (Foreign news? Cuarcao is ours, right?)
Amanda Knox returns to the US.
“Tourist dies in helicopter crash (accident?) in US.”
Not a letter about the disaster that is a disaster for millions of people for their livelihoods and future. The Volkskrant. Navel gazing is the national sport on the offices of many editorial offices. Journalists who are an outgrowth of the acclaimed sixes culture. Anything that smacks of making causal connections and thinking critically is ridiculed in the Netherlands. Elite. The delusion of the day reigns and everyone eats it…
Well, idk. My family had to learn through a short Belgian broadcast that there was some water "nuisance". For many it is a disaster of an unprecedented nature. I see images on Thai TV about the flood disaster of 1953. Well….. not important enough for sure.
I completely agree Hans, always complaining about the Netherlands! Do you know what I would have liked an answer to to keep the credibility of the super pro Thai: why don't I hear any of those people criticizing the bungling of the Thai government every year? I don't hear anyone saying WE have done better since 1953! Better to prevent than to take action too late! And Cor, Michael Jackson was not just anyone, so I think that is relevant, the rest, well... Determined by the editorial staff with editor-in-chief.
I have only been aware of world news since 1998, that was the year I got internet, before that I was under the assumption that the NOS news reported completely and objectively…
what are you referring to mike? I don't understand what you mean by the nos journal etc. etc.
@marcos, I had previously read the message "The entire province of Ayutthaya is now a disaster area" where the responses also showed that the coverage in NL. not, or at least not to be called sparse. What I meant to say is that if you are really interested in a bep. type of news, it is better to turn to the internet since the reporting in the Ned. media does not optimally provide for this.
Thank you Miek for your explanation. Because I wanted to say that it is not a matter of providing objective and complete information. The editorial staff and editor-in-chief of the NOS and RTL news programs choose other items, yes that is possible. What are their priorities at that moment? But I'm sure John knows better
@John, what I've learned since the internet era is that you can also influence public opinion by leaving something out of the reporting, nothing to the detriment of the NOS, fortunately they have an excellent complaints handling system. 😉
I will hopefully leave for Thailand on January 9th.
is it safe bangkok towards pucket?
please comment
I would strongly advise against Phuket with the negative news they have been in the media with here in Thailand. Robbers nest. It is safe to travel there but once there… Krabi, Phang nga and many places around are much better and people a lot friendlier.
daku frits, go there for a day to have seen it and then be gone
Greetings
