It came out of heaven this week in Bangkok, especially Monday evening it was hit. Roads were flooded in 36 places in Bangkok. In some places the water was 20 cm high, which has not happened in 25 years. It will continue to rain heavily in the capital in the coming days.

Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand had to go through the dust. According to him, these types of floods are inevitable and will continue to occur in the future because Bangkok is below sea level. In the long term, he sees the Klong Bang Sue drainage tunnel as part of the solution. The tunnel should be ready in April next year. That tunnel can greatly reduce the water problems on Ratchadapisek Road, Lat Phrao Road and Vibhavadi Rangsit Road and the surrounding area. The governor would prefer to have two more tunnels built: the Khlong Prem Prachakorn and Bung Nong Bon, but there is no budget for that at the moment.

Sukhumbhand was criticized last year for flooded streets and again accusing fingers are pointing in his direction. Prime Minister Prayut is also involved and he believes that the city's drainage system needs to be drastically improved.

The Dutch ambassador Karel Hartogh has offered his help and he would consider it a good thing if Thailand would use the knowledge of the Dutch in the field of water management.

According to the weather forecast, it will continue to rain in Bangkok at least until Sunday.

Well… in 1942 and 1995 the place was also flooded, not to mention 2011.
There is not enough weight loss for the elite… if you know what I mean…

Is a visit to Bangkok fun at the moment or is it better to travel immediately after arrival to, for example, Chiang Mai. Does it rain constantly or is it a heavy shower every day?

It hardly ever rains in Chiang Mai. you don't imagine yourself here in the rainy season. Pukhet also seems to be quite wet

I don't think the Thais have much of a need for Dutch management in the field of water management. The Thais now have enough experience with this and they are certainly not stupid. The problem remains who pays and who takes care of implementation.

I read earlier that there was a huge drought in the north of Thailand and that the farmers were therefore unable to grow a second crop of rice. Has it started to rain there or is it still dry there?

      Dear Wim.
In the north of Thailand area CM , it is also raining now and not just a little bit .
Just around five o'clock in the evening on June 23, so today, a huge rain shower accompanied by a lot of thunder.
And for those who want to know there is no smog in Chiangmai and Lamphun at the moment.
I , living from my house in the middle of the mountain range , have been able to see the distant top of Doi Inthanon and Doi Suthep for several weeks now .
But keep in mind that it is stuffy hot during the day due to the high humidity.

      Jan Beute.

    someone; short of memory?

In 2011, his little five years ago, the water was with me in Lak Si, in my living room. It was the first time in my life that I also had an indoor swimming pool, with a water depth of 60 cm.

People who haven't experienced this forget it quickly, but we don't.

Greetings Nico, from a dry Lak Si.

At the beginning of the rainy season (about 4 weeks ago) on TV with a lot of fanfare a new well dredger truck into use, shows the problem well. Just like around that time, images are also shown on TV in which people are busy removing vegetation from canals and rivers:

WHY DON'T PLAN? and systematically clean sewers all year round? as well as removal of vegetation in canals/rivers.

In the summer period there is no flooding problem and then people do not think ahead, let alone take action.
Just as people do nothing during the rainy season to combat/prevent water shortages in the coming summer.
