The Transport Ministry on Tuesday submitted the findings of an investigation into alleged irregularities at Thai Airways International (THAI) to the Ministry of Finance for further action.

The report was submitted by Khomkrit Wongsomboon, head of an investigative team put together by the Ministry of Transport to investigate the causes of the heavy losses at Thailand's flag carrier.

According to Mr. Khomkrit, in 2003-2004 irregularities were found in the sale of airline tickets, overtime of technicians and the purchase of Airbus A340 aircraft (read: corruption). All these things have contributed to the huge losses of the former state-owned company.

The technicians who worked for THAI made it very colorful. The salaries and expenses for technicians are budgeted for 2,4 billion baht per year, but in reality an additional 2 billion baht was spent on overtime for this group. For example, a lot of overtime was written that was never actually worked.

Mr. Khomkrit says that the Ministry of Transport is leaving the matter to the Ministry of Finance because THAI is no longer a state-owned company and is therefore not under its supervision. The airline lost its status as a state-owned company when the Ministry of Finance reduced its stake in the airline to below 50%.

According to Mr Khomkrit, the findings will also be presented to the Prime Minister and the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC).

THAI has debts of more than 244 billion baht and is basically bankrupt. However, the bankruptcy court allows THAI to reorganize without creditors being able to claim their debt.

Yesterday Wingspan, a sister company of THAI, announced its intention to lay off 2.598 employees with immediate effect. Previously, 896 employees lost their jobs. The company previously employed 4.400 workers.

Corruption and cronyism? never heard of it in Thailand :) The question is who is going to close the well. And then you bring your share to less than 50% in good time, which is probably a coincidence again. Thailand is well on its way to economic ruin. I have only pity for all the innocent Thais who are victims of this.

How surprising! This does not fit in the Thai culture at all. However? 5555!!
When will we hear the deal from the submarines?

Gosh that's surprising. Isn't this part of Thailand? I feel sorry for all those people who end up on the street. When does that button turn here in Thailand?

As for overtime, some details appeared in an article in the Bangkok Post a few days ago. It turned out that several employees declared a lot of overtime. That list is topped by an employee who wrote 3354 hours – 419 working days – overtime in one year!
567 employees wrote more than 1500 hours in a year……..

Everything seemed possible in Thaksin's time. Question marks about the whole ground thing, security systems and quality of the airport and about grabbing Thai wherever it could.
The following may seem off topic, but it is important in the grand scheme of things.
How much more evidence will there be that the red people were massively unable to exercise their freedoms wisely?
The people get a government they deserve, but I don't think it's strange that if it goes too far, others will draw the line to prevent further damage. A motto of the army and the de facto boss controlled by the royal family.
This is definitely going to get a little bit of tails I think if only to remind everyone what kind of double agenda that man had.
War on Drugs with a few thousand deaths, the sale of AIS that was also not acceptable for the greater glory of his clan and also popular posturing because it is not his own money.
A black period in history, the consequences of which are still visible today.

As if the current government is better with a military dictator who does everything to enrich his high-ranking army friends.
Trying to silence the population etc. etc. that these corpses are now falling out of the closet is only due to corona otherwise nothing would have happened for a long time...
