State of emergency lifted in three Northeastern provinces
Bangkok – The Thai The government announced today that a state of emergency has been lifted in the northeastern provinces of Nakhon Ratchasima, Udorn Thani and Khon Kaen.
The state of emergency remains in effect for the provinces of Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan and Pathum Thani. This is not unexpected, as there have been several light bomb attacks in Bangkok in recent weeks. This threat will continue for the next month. Bangkok police say they are well advanced in the investigation into the perpetrators of the bombings.
The state of emergency gives the authorities extensive powers to maintain order and prohibits gatherings of more than five people. In practice, tourists have so far not been inconvenienced by the state of emergency.
