De Telegraaf writes about one today Dutchman who was stabbed after an argument on Koh Samui but then ended up in jail himself. It would be about Gerard van Vulpen who got into a fight on New Year's Eve about a bar bill on the island and was then stabbed by an employee of the bar.

He was seriously injured and ended up in intensive care, but the perpetrator(s) were not arrested because they allegedly paid the police. Gerard was then accused of having used drugs, according to a blood test in the hospital, and to his surprise, was himself detained.

A spokesman for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it will do everything possible to get the Dutchman released.

Typically Thailand, where the victim has usually done it with the authorities, is treated that way in almost every case. Don't sleep a wink at night in Northern Thailand (Nan province) because of the disco boom. The Tourist Police told me that I should not have come during the festive season, in other words: it is always the fault of the farang here, because if they had not come to Thailand, there would have been no problem at all. Thai logic, some Dutch people in Thailand have already become infected with it!

Strange story …….in the article it is not stated that Mr van Vulpen denied having used drugs.
Bit stupid if he has used it, especially if you have lived in Thailand for a number of years, you should know better.
I estimate that he will get another 3 months and then will not be allowed to enter Thailand for the time being.

That scares me. Often ran into Gerard on Koh Samui and know him as a mediating person. Hopefully the problem will be resolved soon.
