A 40-year-old Dutchman is suspected of murdering his Thai wife. The body of the woman (35) was found yesterday afternoon by her father in their home in Hom Kret (Nakhon Pathom). He hadn't heard from his daughter in three days.

Judging by the injuries to the head and face, the police suspect that the woman was killed with a hard object. A damaged tablet was found near her body. On the wall was a handwritten message in English reproaching the woman [no details].

Neighbors say they heard the couple arguing on Saturday evening. The next morning the man drove off and has not returned since. Some say the man accused his wife of chatting on Facebook and Line too often.

The photo of the man has been sent to all border posts to prevent him from fleeing the country. The couple had been in a relationship for two years and had moved into the house where the drama took place three months ago.

In Thailand, according to some, so dangerous, it strikes me that murder and manslaughter mainly take place in the relational domestic atmosphere.

Where you can count the murders of randomly chosen victims (tourists, expats) on one hand, and then you still have fingers left, the number of partner murders is increasing noticeably.

You can hardly keep up and for me it is an indication that sometimes Thai ladies are married in a frivolous way, who later turn out to be not as gentle as the Western man thinks in advance??

Not an important issue for me, since I am happily married, but I don't think it is fair to portray this safe country as unsafe as some people do.

The violence in Thai society certainly does not take place on the street or on the islands, but often in the home between wife and husband.

Update Dutchman suspected of murdering his Thai wife. The man has since been arrested in Cambodia. He has admitted to arguing with her, but denies hitting her. He had taken the tablet and pushed her so that her head hit a cupboard. The police doubt whether it happened that way given her serious injuries.
