The Dutch mainly book their holidays online on the internet. Last year, 81 percent of all holidays were taken over the internet. This is evident from figures from research bureau NBTC-NIPO.

People are increasingly opting for luxury holidays such as all-inclusive hotels. Putting together a trip yourself on the internet is also popular: transport and accommodation are then booked separately.

If we look at a number of trends over the past ten years, it appears that the Dutch increasingly value holidays abroad (nearly 18 million holidays last year). Holidays also often consist of short trips. More than 13 million two to four day trips were taken.

Last year, the Netherlands spent almost 15,5 billion euros on holidays. The Internet has long been a widely used means of searching and booking. In four years, usage increased by almost 10 percent. More and more bookings are also being made during the trip itself.

Every year about a million Dutch people go on winter sports, those figures have been stable for years.

Are all all inclusive hotels luxury? I have regularly read that this formula is often chosen so that holidaymakers know where they stand financially. It is not the luxury, but the certainty about the costs that is decisive to book such a trip. Especially people with a limited budget choose it. I think there are also many of those resorts that are not really "luxury".

However, it can be experienced as "luxury" because the sun always shines, there is a large swimming pool, the children can eat ice cream all day long and there is a continuously present buffet.

Personally, I don't feel much for it. The children are allowed to eat their bellies full of ice cream, their parents are of no use to them, but they take absolutely nothing from the country where they are.

The fact that everything is included is a luxury for many Dutch people who would otherwise stay in a bungalow park or on a campsite. I think you should look at it that way. For many Dutch people, making a trip to Thailand is already a huge luxury. It's easy to talk because I travel alone, but if you have a family it is quite an expensive affair because of the airline tickets and then you have nothing. Yet many people who ask me what Thailand costs are quite surprised about what it ultimately costs. 2 weeks to Centenparcs in the Netherlands in the high season is not really cheap either. Then everything in Turkey or elsewhere where these holiday factories are located is a great alternative. My neighbors also did it this year instead of camping. My neighbor was also on holiday now, was the first thing she said to me. Children are entertained, food is ready, the beds are made, some clothes in the suitcase and off you go. Such a luxury!!!
