In 2011, Bangkok opened its first IKEA store in Bangkok on Bang Na-Trat Road, just over 20 km from the center of Bangkok. There is now a second branch at Central WestGate in Nonthaburi.

The new IKEA store will also cover 40.000 square meters, just like the first store. The land where IKEA is located was originally reserved for the development of apartment buildings, office buildings and hotels, but the furniture giant from Sweden is now moving there.

The new IKEA is expected to open its doors on August 28, 2017 and attract 80.000 visitors a day.

IKEA is of Swedish origin, with locations all over the world. The company focuses on offering furniture and home items that usually have to be assembled by the buyer himself. The concept consists of offering articles that belong to the lower market segment in terms of price. There are more than 350 IKEA stores in 43 countries.

Ingvar Kamprad (March 30, 1926) is the founder of IKEA, known for its extreme thriftiness. In 2004 there was speculation that Kamprad was the richest man in the world, partly due to the fact that the US dollar-euro exchange rate had changed significantly. The Swede was speculated to have an estimated net worth of $51 billion, but this has been denied by Kamprad and IKEA. The value of IKEA is also included in the capital, but according to spokespersons for IKEA, Kamprad no longer owns the company. As a result, the company value of IKEA may not be included in the founder's assets. Forbes estimates Kamprad's net worth (2006) at US$28,5 billion, making him the fourth richest person in the world.

Too bad, I had hoped to be closer to Lak-Si or Don Muang or Rangsit the North of Bangkok, now quite on the outside of Bangkok.

I worked at IKEA for a long time. Ingvar is indeed super frugal, he uses his tea bag 2 times, but of course he is smart. Once there was a meeting with the banks, afterwards they had a bite to eat, all limousines came for driving, but Ingvar opted for the tram and arrived earlier than the limousines. If you didn't have expensive cars at IKEA, you left I know that 1 of the high gentlemen had a Porche and an old car that was parked a few streets away the Porche was exchanged there for the old barrel and went to the workplace, such things happen there. After the death of his wife, he lives an extremely dreary life in Sweden. IKEA is a Dutch foundation, recently sold its name for approx. 5 billion euros.

$51 billion is nowhere near enough to be the richest man on earth.

You don't find his name in the lists of the richest people in the world, for one simple reason: he prefers to remain 'unknown' or 'in the background'. Perhaps even better: 'behind the scenes'. And it's also very easy to stay out of the news, from these richest-person-in-the-world lists, if you own both Forbes, the magazine that makes these lists, and the Associated Press, the news agency that the news 'makes' one of almost every central bank in the world!
