Mukdahan

The Department of Airports, the manager of regional airports in Thailand, has completed a feasibility study for an airport in Mukdahan.

The Thai government considers Mukdahan as the gateway of the Isan (Northeast) region to Thailand's neighboring countries. Mukdahan is a city in Northeast Thailand and the capital of the province of the same name. The city is located on the Mekong opposite the Laotian city of Savannakhet.

Transport Minister Saksayam says the airport, which will cost 4,5 billion baht, will allow local residents to travel more easily to Laos and Myanmar.

The outcome of the study is now being reviewed by the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning.

That seems strong to me, unless they mean that you first have to fly to Bangkok and then to Myanmar. Certainly not easy.
And what could be easier to drive to Laos than via the friends chip bridge in Mukdahan.
V, w, b, flying to Bangkok, this now goes via Nakhon Phanom and or Sakhon Nakhon via a shuttle service by minibus from the airlines.
So an airport in Mukdahan will be at the expense of customers there,

I also wonder what the benefit is for local residents to travel to Laos more easily. From Mukdahan you can cross the Mekhong River via the Friendship Bridge II and you will arrive in Savannakhet. Almost in the center of Savannakhet is already an international airport. The fact that flights depart from there on only 3 days a week is probably due to a lack of interest.
