Swedish home appliance manufacturer Electrolux, known for brands such as AEG and Zanussi, is moving its refrigerator production from Australia to Thailand.

In total, the company will cut 2.000 jobs, more than 3 percent of the workforce. This was announced on Friday morning at the presentation of disappointing results for the third quarter.

Electrolux plans to close a factory in Orange, Australia, about 200 kilometers west of Sydney. The factory, where refrigerators are made, employs 500 people. The production of this moves to Thailand. Jobs will also disappear in Europe. The job losses could be even higher, as Electrolux will investigate whether it should keep its four Italian factories.

Electrolux employs more than 60.000 people worldwide.

That's great for Thailand, it actually surprises me a bit.

A year ago I spoke to a freight forwarder who saw his customers leave Thailand for Myanmar for the production goods.

So I subconsciously assumed that in the future all larger companies would ignore Thailand in favor of Myanmar, where wages are a lot lower.

Maybe it has something to do with infrastructure? Don't know.
