Drunk senior official runs over security guard
Yorn Chiranakhon, a doctor and a senior official at the Ministry of Health, hit a security guard in Nonthaburi on Friday while drunk. The victim was dragged 20 meters and is in a coma in intensive care at the hospital.
Yorn has since admitted to hitting the guard, but he says he didn't see the man because it was dark. The guard was hit when he closed a gate. According to a witness, the officer was drunk and could barely stand on his feet. Police say Yorn refused a blood test.
Yesterday, Yorn Chiranakhon defended himself at a press conference after social media focused on the accident and his alleged drunkenness. According to him, he had not fled and wants to reimburse all medical expenses of the guard. He refused to answer questions about his drunkenness.
The spokesman for the ministry said during the press conference that the police investigation will be awaited before deciding whether the official will be punished.

High official??
According to ThaiVisa, it was a doctor, a medic.
The same e-mail also stated that Thailand is aiming for first place in traffic accidents, with an average of 82,6 deaths per day, and more than 2500 injuries.
It is indeed getting crazier by the day, last week I did my daily cycling tour as usual.
It is on a similarly narrow provincial road.
In the opposite direction, a heavy tanker with a trailer overtakes in the bend.
He had absolutely no idea what was coming from the opposite direction.
It ended well, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to write this, but if you do something like that with dangerous substances, you must be a brainless person, and the gigantic number of traffic accidents here confirms it.
Two days ago I was confronted by two racing mailmen each on a Honda Dream.
Loaded with bulging bags of mail and packages.
On an unclear S bend with a solid yellow line they came charging, passed a scooter Scopy I and drove on half of my road section.
Luckily for them I was on the bike and could give them space.
If I had been with the Mitsch it would probably have looked different. We are now finally in first place in the world rankings for traffic accidents.
Jan Beute.
whether it was a doctor or a simple farmer is completely irrelevant. Nor whether you will be crushed by a truck with toxic substances or chicken shit. What matters is that the Thai lacks the quality to avoid dangerous situations, has not learned to behave responsibly, so cannot drive, feels like the ruler of the road in his car and cannot in any way dealing with fellow road users who get in his way.
Dear Peter, I think the relevance lies in the fact that this is a doctor and he must be aware of what alcohol does to people in traffic. I hope that the man in question does not commit such situations without drinking. Nothing human is strange to me, I understand that, but once again the bar can be raised with a person who has studied and should know much better and certainly should not play these kinds of jokes. This is an example figure and I know whether you are bitten by the dog or cat both hurt, but again there is a difference. I wonder what this police investigation will yield. The non-cooperative attitude of this doctor and the lack of research into the blood alcohol level does not reassure me that it will be handled correctly. In the Netherlands, coercion can be applied under certain conditions when blood is taken and the punishment is more severe for refusal. You can guess how that works here. To be continued and I hope the victim comes out of the coma soon but it sounds very worrying and often people are permanently damaged in these situations if they survive.
This senior civil servant/doctor will certainly come off well, experience shows. Pay a little for the victim and then all in the known cover up.
If a foreigner had done it, Thailand and the media would have been too small. Then we would have already seen photos of a pathetic man at a table surrounded by flaunting “we are so good” police people. And don't refuse anything from an alcohol test. He was immediately thrown into the bin. I hate the multiple standards in this country. It's sad that this man is indeed probably going to get away with a little money.
This is exactly one of the reasons why I continue to live in the Netherlands with my Thai sweetheart
