Pattaya beach is replenished with 2,8 cubic meters of sand over a distance of 360.000 km. It will start next month after an eighteen-month delay. That delay was due to a shortage of suitable sand sources, says director Ekkarat of the 6th Marine Region Office Pattaya.

The beach is now only 2 to 3 meters wide in some places. That should be 50 meters, the original width and is intended as a buffer to prevent natural erosion. Without this sand replenishment operation, the beach would disappear completely. The work will last until October. After that, Pattaya again has a full-fledged beach.

Pattaya Beach is one of ten beaches that could be lost within ten years if draconian measures are not taken.

Thailand has 23 coastal provinces with a coastline of 2.000 km along the Gulf of Thailand and 1.000 km along the Andaman Sea. According to the Ministry of the Environment, at least 670 meters of beach are lost every year over a distance of 5 km due to erosion.

I wonder how they will do that, come from the dredging world myself, so regularly sprayed on beaches with a hopper and a floating lee. Hopper sucks up the sand outside, connects to the hose and blows. Couple of bulldozers to level things out and to the next beach.

Yes, maybe Boskalis will drop by with the Hoper PRINCE OF THE NETHERLANDER and then put those cubic meters back in right away.

Well, I just wanted to say Hank,

Just rent a hopper in the Netherlands and it's done in no time.
I have seen Dutch people at work in the Seychelles.
Then it doesn't have to take until October at all.

I do have an idea. Just build a dike from the point at Naklua to the harbor at Bali Hai. Then you do something for the long term. Maybe we can call it Pattaya lagoon. If they start by letting all the pieces of concrete that are lying en masse everywhere sink neatly into the sea in a line, you will be cleaning up ugly stone waste. It is cheap and coral can grow wonderfully on it. A dike can have a thousand and one good possibilities. Harbor, recreation, an extra beach on the lagoon side, a road, you name it. A truck with a grabber and a boat with a grabber. Of course there is a little more to it, but sometimes simple is best..

Excellent idea. But then they have to extend the sewage pipes, with all sewage from Pattaya, that end up in the sea, otherwise it will become a real shit pool between the new dike and the beach of Pattaya.
