Cable chaos on Asok road in Bangkok

The municipality of Bangkok (BMA) wants to have a number of cables that disfigure the city underground within two years. To this end, an underground pipeline network will be built in Bangkok in which all telecom and broadcasting cables will be processed.

Removing overhead cables will not only beautify the city, but should also support the development of a digital economy and strengthen network connectivity in the Internet of Things (IoT) era, said Takorn Tantasith, secretary general of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).

The costs of the project will be borne by all telecom and broadcasting organizations and coordinated by the NBTC, according to Pol Gen Asawin. Upon completion, the BMA will manage and lease the pipelines to users. According to Takorn, the project is part of a government policy to make 39 main streets in Bangkok, Samut Prakan and Nonthaburi cable-free.

Let them start by removing the 60% that are obsolete and no longer functional.
We had a super big transformer fire here in Udomsuk 3 weeks ago, and you've never seen such a devastation afterwards, they just leave the old junk hanging after the renewal, almost to the ground with all the risks that entails. There is also no control system on those pendulums. Everyone just does something / walk over the cables, and they don't care if they kick one cable loose from another.

1260 Km seems like a lot, but there are 50 cables in a clump, and on the other side of the street those 50 run back.
So in the end, all cables will be brought underground over a length of less than 15 kilometers.

A great news… and good employment for the hard workers who do it for a small wage.

What also surprises me is that they also leave the old cable hanging from home to the distribution point when you change internet provider.
That way you do indeed get 50 cables over each other.
Maybe invest in one good cable for all internet and telephone providers.
