Ratchadamnoen Avenue and surrounding streets have been thronged with anti-government demonstrators this afternoon: 100.000 according to the police, but the organizers estimate 440.000 because so many protest stickers have been distributed. Incidents have not occurred so far.

Meanwhile, red shirts went to the Rajamangala stadium. The website of Bangkok Post does not report how many have arrived. The red shirts remain in the stadium for fear of confrontations with opponents. Because one picture says more than a thousand words, I will suffice with a photo impression.

I hear in Hua Hin that on the way to Bangkok perhaps 100 buses and passenger cars from the South have been stranded due to nails and other iron objects scattered on the road. The die is cast, shall we say.

Breaking News In three more days, the Democrat rally on Ratchadamnoen Avenue will be called off. On Monday, the demonstrators marched to thirteen government buildings, the headquarters of the three army units and television stations. Rally leader Suthep Thaugsuban promises that the marches will be peaceful and orderly. The police advises traffic users to avoid the relevant routes.

The riot police begin to grumble. The agents do not complain about the food, but they have been away from home for over a month. There is no proper accommodation to sleep and they have to see how they do the laundry. The officers are on guard six hours a day. They guard the area around Government House, Parliament and the Ministry of Education. The daily allowance is 300 to 400 baht and the meal allowance is 200 to 300 baht.
