It is about to happen on Sunday: the 'total takeover of power' and the beginning of the 'people's revolution'. "It's time for real action," action leader Suthep Thaugsuban told his supporters last night in the government complex on Chaeng Wattana Road, which is partly occupied.

That 'revolution' is led by – hold on – the People's Committee for Thailand's Absolute Democracy under the Constitutional Monarchy', 24 men who raised their arms in triumph at the presentation.

On Sunday, the main offices of the municipal and national police forces are planned to be besieged, the (heavily guarded) Government House, four ministries and two telecom companies. A general strike of government employees has been declared from Monday with the exception of the Administrative Court, Constitutional Court, army, Thai Airways International, railways and Bangkok's municipal transport company.

Deputy Prime Minister Pracha Promnok, in charge of security policy, warns the population that Suthep is breaking the law. “His actions have damaged the country and no one knows how much damage they will cause in the future. People should think carefully before participating in a rally.'
Pracha said authorities will take "peaceful, non-violent measures." "The government recognizes the right of the people to express their views, but the practice of those rights and freedoms must remain within legal limits."

A similar warning was issued by Interior Minister Charupong Ruangsuwan in response to Suthep's appeal to the people of the country to besiege more Provincial Houses. Charupong called on provincial governors to ask people in their provinces to avoid protests. He pointed out that Suthep's actions are criminal offenses which carry heavy penalties.

Opposition leader Abhisit tried to iron out some wrinkles yesterday. He denied that his party (the Democrats) had broken with Suthep. We strive for the same goal, but we try to achieve it in different ways, he said. Abhisit also made light of Suthep's attack on Korn Chatikavanij, former finance minister in the Abhisit cabinet. He had disapproved of the occupation of the Ministry of Finance and that went down the wrong way with Suthep. Korn must keep his mouth shut or he can expect 'troubles in his life', Suthep had said. Abhisit: 'The issue is already in the past.'

Hopefully everyone uses their common sense and it doesn't come to violence.
We leave for Thailand next Tuesday, we live in Bkk so I'm curious what awaits us there.
My wife can't wait to join the mob and demonstrate.
Fortunately, the ISA state of emergency has been declared for the international airports and hopefully we can land without any problems, although you never know it can turn over like a leaf on a tree.
This can easily turn into a coup like in 2006, only then the stake was that the then Prime Minister Thaksin and his Thai Rak Thai party were deposed.
Would it not be the case that Sunthep in particular is out for a coup by calling for the occupation of a government building, so that soon the police and the army will be obliged to make a choice whether to act against the demonstrators or to side with them (their own people/family), and when the latter happens a coup is a fact.
The Thai population always fully supports the politicians they have voted for and trust them blindly, and that is of course a wonderful fact, only in Thai politics there is little guidance, it consists largely of people who are important in their region are, or from clans and elite groups.
Sunthep is also someone who belongs to this and in southern Thailand (Surat Thani) he is not an unknown personality and not only because of his political background.

According to my wife, violence is already being practiced in bkk by a protesting group of red shirts against students. It's on the news right now. There would have been deaths on the part of the students. And the students plan to retaliate against red shirts.

Suthep is an unrealistic character. Popular uprising? By the minority? I predict that his undemocratic behavior will make him smoke a heavy pipe. Or is he a kind of Thaksin but with a yellow house?

We will wait for Sunday and then the real action will start on Monday (to end demonstrations and arrest ringleaders). It is the king's birthday soon and decorations must be hung. So……….

      Nice story Teun.
Short story but you certainly hit the nail on the head.
The big corruption is the real problem in Thailand.
This also helped to bring the latest financing plan to fruition.
And who was also the member of the government and of which party , who owned several Rolls Royces , including a pink colored .
And never had to pay import duties, taxes, etc. here.
His son worked in Singapore then he said , and they were supposedly his .
      Corruption, corruption and more corruption.
If only there were a political party in Thailand, where all members were free from this phenomenon, Thailand would still have a chance to make real progress.
But as it is now, it is lead on both sides for old iron for me.
The many demonstrators that you now see on TV are also many who are paid.
Heard the whole story again yesterday from my ega .
Free transport , food and 600 bath .
Knowledge of her, she called last night, lives in Bangkok, does not interfere with this, but received a kind of equal proposal from the other side.
No, real progress here in Thailand can take years or is a utopia.

      greetings Jantje.

I have lived in Thailand for 8 years and it has been nothing but political misery with many victims, all this misery is only maintained by rich power lusts who try to drive the ordinary Thai crazy with lies that only benefit them .
If it continues like this, Thailand will end up in an unsustainable situation that will divide and destroy the country.
It is very sad to say that there is so much to achieve with Thailand that can benefit Thailand and its people
