ANVR, in collaboration with several car rental companies, has realized a crucial improvement for consumers in the rental of cars at the holiday destination. From now on, travelers can rent a car at the holiday address under consumer-friendly ANVR travel conditions.

For the consumer, this means that he pays fair prices, that he is insured according to strict ANVR minimum requirements, that the customer can address his Dutch provider in case of complaints and that he can simply turn to the Dutch disputes committee.
Alamo.nl, DiscoverCars and Sunny Cars were the first car rental companies to join the ANVR and use the ANVR travel conditions. All car rental, which is offered as part of a package tour by ANVR tour operators, also falls under this.

Unjustified damages

Car rental at the holiday address can often cause many problems in practice. Cars are sometimes offered for a few euros per week, but the customer has to pay all kinds of surcharges on the spot. There are also regular complaints about whether or not correctly charged damages and unclear insurance policies.

In 2015, the Consumers' Association submitted a complaints report to the ACM regulator. The EU has even made agreements with major car rental companies to achieve improvements, but these agreements are unclear and are not fulfilled by other rental companies. There is also no quality mark for landlords at the holiday address.

Avoid hassle and nagging

The ANVR has run out www.anvr.nl/autoverhuur placed a test about what you often encounter as a customer when renting and gives tips. The ANVR has also entered into discussions with car rental companies to see how things can be improved. “Together we have come up with a simple but extremely effective approach,” says Oostdam. For example, ANVR car rental companies are obliged to rent out cars under ANVR travel conditions. This means that the customer enters into an agreement with the organizer in the Netherlands.

Benefits

The agreements that are now in place offer the traveler many advantages. For example, the rental car is offered under consumer-friendly ANVR travel conditions, conditions that have been agreed with the Consumers' Association. In addition, the ANVR ensures that the affiliated car rental provider adheres to the rules when it comes to knowing who you are doing business with, privacy and cookie policy, secure payment, expert personnel, etc.
The car rental companies also follow the rules of the Dutch Advertising Code Committee and the ACM, which means that the offers are transparent and easily comparable.

The car hirer is insured according to the Dutch minimum requirements of the ANVR when it comes to liability, so that, for example, in the event of personal injury, the customer cannot be fobbed off with a limited amount. In addition, in the event of complaints, the car hirer no longer has to start legal proceedings abroad, but can simply go to the Dutch disputes committee or court.

From mid-2018, the ANVR has set the additional requirement that the car rental company joins a guarantee fund, such as SGR, so that the customer also has security in the event of bankruptcy.
