The Stichting Nederlanders Buiten Nederland (SNBN) announces in its newsletter that voting for the Senate from abroad will be possible.

What started in 2015 with a motion at the D66 congress, ended today, seven years later, with a victory for and recognition of the rights of the Dutch people outside the Netherlands: in the Senate itself, the last hurdle was cleared to ratify the constitution. modify. This amendment opens the way for Dutch citizens outside the Netherlands to vote for the Senate from now on, indirectly, just like Dutch citizens within the Netherlands.

The bill was passed today with more than the required two-thirds majority of the 75 seats in parliament (54 in favour, 21 against). A group of SNBN people – literally from all over the world – were present on site, led by board member Jan Joosten, in SNBN regalia.

Which parties voted for and which against? How did BNR radio report on the vote? And how is it going now? You read it all here!

A good step forward. It was a strange thing that after emigration you were allowed to vote for the Tweede K and not for the senate.

Let's hope they abolish that outdated 'stepped' voting procedure for the senate; a system as outdated as the electoral votes on the other side of the ocean. As if we citizens are not able to designate our own representatives!

If you see what kind of leaders have been elected in the world, you can in some cases question that.
