Yesterday, the rules for traveling to the Netherlands during the Covid pandemic changed radically. Although this has no consequences for travelers from Thailand for the time being, it is still good to mention this.

As of 1 June 2021, there will no longer be a flight ban in the Netherlands for persons from countries with a high risk of the corona pandemic. This ban has been replaced by new quarantine rules. This means that travelers from countries in South and Central America, India and South Africa can fly to the Netherlands under certain conditions. An EU entry ban still applies to so-called 'very high-risk countries', so travelers from these countries are only allowed to enter the Netherlands if there is a good reason to do so. Such as for study, knowledge and research, work or for family visits in the event of illness, death or childbirth.

Quarantine obligation and two negative test results instead of a flight ban

From June 1, all travelers from countries with a very high COVID-19 risk will be subject to a mandatory quarantine and a mandatory negative NAAT (PCR) test result. They must also have a quarantine statement with them. Travelers from countries where worrying virus variants occur must also show a negative rapid test upon departure.

Countries outside the EU to which the entry ban in the Netherlands does not apply

Do you live or are you in a safe country outside the European Union and do you want to return to the Netherlands? Then you may enter the Netherlands. There is no EU entry ban for safe countries.

No negative test result or home quarantine necessary

Are you traveling from a country outside the EU with a low COVID-19 risk, a safe country, to the Netherlands? Then you don't have to negative test result to have. You don't have to either in home quarantine (stay home) upon arrival in the Netherlands. Whether this also applies to you if you travel back from a country with a low COVID-19 risk within the EU can be found in the travel advice on the Netherlands worldwide.

Safe countries with low COVID-19 risk outside the EU

Safe countries with a low COVID-19 risk outside the European Union/Schengen are:

  • Australië
  • New Zealand
  • Rwanda
  • Singapore
  • South Korea
  • Thailand
  • China (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau). The EU entry ban applies to China until China also allows European travelers again. Travelers from China do not need to be able to show a negative test statement.
  • Israel

Safe countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands are:

  • Aruba
  • Bonaire
  • Curaçao
  • Sint Maarten
  • Saba
  • St. Eustatius

And so it is….maybe this article will put an end to all those comments from people who just don't know and/or mix up countries.
From Thailand directly to the Netherlands is still possible without a test or quarantine.
Yes…provided there is no stopover in a country where different rules apply.
But remember… tomorrow it could be different.

Suppose you live in Thailand, more or less permanently, and deregistered in the Netherlands.
Of course you will then be in possession of what is popularly called an “annual visa”.
Until the corona misery, always every year with a Thai wife on holiday in the Netherlands, 3 weeks in June.
As I understand the written above, you can now go for a holiday / family visit
etc. without any problems to the Netherlands.
But how do you get back to Thailand with your Thai wife?
Is that possible without COE or something like that?
Have any of your compatriots experienced this?

Of course you can go back, but on the well-known conditions: CoE, quarantine, etc.
Incidentally, there is nothing new under the sun when it comes to traveling to the Netherlands from Thailand, it has always been possible.
