Warning for tourists in Bangkok – update May 14

Yesterday, the political conflict between the Redshirts and the government once again led to serious violence. It is also very restless today and there are reports of injuries, including journalists.
Gunshots and explosions are observed in central Bangkok at the protest locations. Military and security forces use tear gas and fire rubber and probably also live ammunition at demonstrators.
The Dutch Embassy in Bangkok advises to avoid movements in Bangkok as much as possible in the event of violence such as now.

The situation in Bangkok is now very tense. Security forces closed off the area around the demonstration on 13 May. You are advised to completely avoid the area (bounded by Petchaburi Road, Wireless Road, Rama 4 and Phya Thai Road).
Violent clashes between security forces and demonstrators on the night of 13 May left one person dead and an unknown number injured. The chance of new collisions is high.
In case of violent confrontations, travelers recommended to avoid movements within the capital Bangkok as much as possible and to continue to follow news media. Non-essential travel to Bangkok is not recommended.
