Some residential areas in Muang (Korat/Nakhon Ratchasima) were flooded yesterday after heavy rain showers. Numerous homes and vehicles were damaged. The overnight rain caused by tropical storm Narin caused a sharp rise in water levels in waterways and reservoirs.

Low-lying areas in Muang were the first to flood. In Chamchuri district, the water reached a height of 1 meter and on many roads, including the Ratchasima-Chokechai and Suranarai road, the water reached up to 50 cm. Dozens of cars and motorcycles suffered water damage. According to residents, the situation was as bad as in 2010, when several districts of the province were affected.

In Phimai district, the Moon River overflowed its banks, flooding houses near the river. Authorities have warned residents in other parts of the district as water levels continue to rise.

The Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather warning for the South. People living near mountain slopes should be especially wary of flooding and landslides. The warning applies until Wednesday.

In the northern part of the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea it is haunted. Boats better stay aside.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department announces that the death toll has risen to 73. Since September 17, 359 districts in 46 provinces have been affected by flooding.
