There were long queues in front of the Treasury Department in Bangkok yesterday (Chakri Day) and in seven places outside the capital. Interested parties wanted to be the first to get hold of the new coins and banknotes with the image of King Rama X.

According to a spokesman, 75 million coins and six times 211 million baht in paper money came into circulation yesterday. Special sets are available for coin collectors.

The first issue of new banknotes concerns 20, 50 and 100 baht. The new 500 and 1.000 baht notes will be issued from July 28 (the king's birthday).

What I still don't understand is that the satangs still exist.
The amount of material the coin is made of is more expensive than the value the coin represents.
In addition, not a single pop and mom shop, gas station, etc., near me accepts satangs.
I only get them back as change at stores such as Big C, Tesco Lotus, Rimpingmarket and when paying the house phone bill at the TOT.
I always put them in a van , and when it is full I take the full van to the Tesco or TOT .
Do they have something to do there again , ALL OF THEM COUNTING MONEY .

    Hello all,
We still have some coins and some paper money left from our last holiday. Isn't that still usable in December? Because otherwise we still have a (small) noose, but still. Who knows more about this?
    Regards,
