Good news from ambassador Karel Hartogh
The Dutch ambassador in Thailand, Karel Hartogh, who has been in the Netherlands for some time for medical reasons, has posted a good message on his Facebook page, which we are happy to copy for you:
“Very pleased to announce that I will be visiting Bangkok from June 12-18 with my wife. It will be a busy week with various political, economic, cultural and social activities.
Of course I also hope to meet many friends and acquaintances, especially from the Dutch community.
To this end, there will be a meeting on Thursday 15 June with representatives and members of NTCC and SMEs in the Green Parrot, and on Friday morning 16 June at the residence with members of the NVT and other interested parties.
More information will follow soon on the embassy FB page”
Note Editorial: Remarkable, that the message on Facebook scored more than 350 "likes" until Thursday midnight and almost 60 people reacted with a positive reaction.
Awesome to hear!!!
Glad you're doing well. From Ciang Mai I wish you and your wife a good time. Unfortunately I am unable to meet you in person.
Great news that the Ambassador is able to do this, Welcome to Bangkok.

The fact that our ambassador is coming back to Thailand to attend the necessary activities gives me the feeling that he is back on track and that he may have started to recover from his illness. I hope so with all my heart for him and his family, but also for us who live in Thailand. We should be happy with qualified and committed people in these kinds of posts. I hope that his arrival is not a one-off, but that he will continue to enjoy life for a long time and that he will be protected from that nasty disease.
Nice to hear that our Karel Hartogh is coming to Thailand for a while. Hopefully that visit will do him a lot of good mentally and physically so that he can continue his fight against his illness with a full battery.
Karel made a fantastic spontaneous and sympathetic impression on me. I once made a comment that he was the only one with a tie, after which I told him that at the next meeting I would auction his tie. And so it happened that I sold his tie by auction, which he also bid on, but a Bangkok Hotel owner went over his offer. The proceeds of 12.500 baht were for our Shelter Center Pattaya, for which I am very grateful on behalf of our children.
I'm glad things are going well again. Hope to see you again at one bitterbal Borrel. in kathu. Happy days in Bangkok.
Thanks again for all the support and kind comments. In response to Pelgrim's question: I am still in a treatment process, the outcome of which is uncertain. It will probably become more clear around the summer. Treatment in the Netherlands makes it impossible for the time being to stay permanently in Bangkok again, although I have recovered well from the radical chemotherapy. Hopefully I will return to my post at the end of September.
Let's hope so dear Karel. A short but powerful visit to our beloved Thailand will certainly do you good. I wish you and your wife a pleasant stay and pleasant days together with the various Thailand visitors.
