After the attacks in Paris, the Thai police have announced that they will increase vigilance in the tourist provinces and in particular during the upcoming Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan.

Thesa Siriwatho, commissioner of the provincial police region 8, said that places where many tourists gather will be extra guarded. The security measures also apply to all piers, bus stations and airports.

In Surat Thani, the local police have been instructed to be extra alert on Hat Rin beach on Koh Phangan, where the Full Moon Party will be held on November 25.

As the tourist season approaches, the police will also carry out additional patrols in the tourist provinces along the Andaman Sea, he added.

“While Thailand is not a target for terrorist attacks, security measures should still be put in place as part of the precautions. I have instructed the police not to perform their duties too flashy in order to avoid fear among the tourists.”

Not a target of terrorist attacks, well we saw that last summer, and there are still plenty of pissed-off Muslim extremists in the south who also want to drop a bomb or something here and there..
