It starts early this year: nuisance caused by local floods in Bangkok. The municipality of Bangkok is even getting help from the army to deal with the flooding caused by heavy rains. Soldiers help, among other things, to fight the water and to regulate traffic.

Yesterday it was hit again with the flooding. Earlier this week there were many problems on Monday and Tuesday. Traffic came to a complete standstill after torrential downpours that flooded streets.

For the time being, it will also take some time with the inconvenience for the residents of Bangkok. Today, but also for the next seven days, it will continue to rain heavily. A reason for Prayut to deploy the army to prevent even more nuisance. Earlier, the governor of Bangkok, Sukhumbhand Paribatra, was much criticized for the situation on Monday and Tuesday, which got completely out of hand.

According to his municipal clerk, Sanya Chenimit, a whopping 591 millimeters of rain fell last week. That is 17,2 percent more than the average of 504,4 mm in recent years. More than 10.000 municipal workers have been deployed to remove waste from canals and sewer wells that prevent the water from flowing away. According to the governor, that is the biggest problem and Thai people should not dump all their waste in the canals.

Like every year, the sewers, wells and canals have not been dredged… so the water cannot escape…. If one were to do that regularly, as is done in the Netherlands, it would save a lot of misery!

If only they would demolish all those concrete roads,
then the water would be easier through natural
drainage can flow out. They had it better Betonkok
    Can name.

We live on a street where, according to Tom, the water can flow away in a natural way.
It is a pleasure to be able to drive there in the rainy season because you can no longer see the road and if you are not careful, you will just sink into the mud. See Bangkok demolish all their concrete roads tomorrow and make them “Natural roads” .Of course the biggest nonsense I've ever heard.
Cleaning the place on time and charging a 100 Baht deposit on the tempex containers and plastic bags would be a much better solution.
But like every year again ::the well will be filled in when the calf has drowned.

Waste is also one of the many reasons that things keep going wrong. All that junk washes together and causes the water drain to become clogged.
Currently (1600 Thai time) it is falling out again in Bangkok and I see that the drains can no longer swallow it.

I think RonnieLatPhrao got it right. I made a photo series in Pattaya, so not BKK, the water can easily drain until all water drain grates are blocked / clogged by (plastic) rubbish. And now, only now, is the water level in the street rising rapidly.

in other words, they not only need timely cleaning, but also need grilles with a much larger surface area, such as those used here on flat roofs and gutters to protect against falling leaves.

I see it arranged in Pattaya, Everything is dumped in the sewer. Stalls selling food and leftover food go into the sewer. That's fat and you destroy a sewer with it. There can be one
council to keep it clean. The restaurants in the Netherlands all have grease traps.
Most Dutch don't throw that in the sewer either, because they themselves pay for the costs in case of a blockage
pay. With us you never actually see that the neighbor comes out and puts his fat in it
throws into the public sewer. The environment will appeal to him.
Actually it is a bit the same that this beautiful country is actually a garbage dump. Almost everyone throws their coarse
dirt in places where no one is looking. The tourist routes are nice and clean. Shouldn't happen to deviate from those routes with family or friends. Then see the true Thailand.
Been living here for years and am an old man. It will serve my time.

If I read this all over again.
Then I am very fortunate that I live in the north of Thailand not far from CM.
Bangkok not a hair on my mind who thinks about living there one day.
Have a beer in the evening with a view of Doi Ithanon and Doi Suthep in the distance.
Beautiful living in the middle of the valley, of course with dry feet.
Bring on the rain, we can certainly use it here during the current drought.

Wonder when the so-called great men and ladies of this country will realize how much money this is going to cost them. Large multinationals are slowly leaving (to Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia) or staying away. And you are also not doing the tourist sector any favors with this, by the way, not only for BKK, but also for Pattaya, which will also turn into 1 large floating market in a while.

In the early 70s I had rented a 2-storey house on Phaholyothin Road, near Lad Phrao, behind the then Drivers License Office. I came downstairs in the morning and the water was up to my hips and immediately left. Kriuspunt Lad Phrao was completely under water. The point is that as long as Bangkok has existed, this has been an annual phenomenon. Look at the year in my comment, 1970. Bangkok is also only 3 meters above sea level and sinks, I thought, 3 cm every year. Just learn to swim.

It may be just me, but starting cleaning etc at the beginning (!) of the rainy season is already quite stupid. Start at the END (!) of the rainy season and make sure it finally becomes a continuous process. Ad hoc policy (??) as has been in place for years does not work. How many times does this have to be demonstrated by the annual floods?
