The police again detained 64 foreigners at different locations who had an ED visa, mainly Africans. Some of them had entered the country illegally and were staying in Thailand on a student visa.

Police will also charge some international and language schools next week for forging visa documents. They issue certificates showing that the foreigners are studying at the language school, when that is not the case. This allows the fraudsters to stay in the country legally for longer than on a tourist visa. A large group of these illegal immigrants engage in crime such as drug trafficking, fraud and prostitution. Immigration middlemen and corrupt agents facilitate this illegal route.

Earlier, the police arrested so-called dating scammers, which are also mainly Africans who defraud single Thai women of money online by pretending to be in love and want to marry the victim. They also had a student visa.

Operation X-Ray Outlaw Foreigners has been going on for a year now. So far, 1.088 suspects have been arrested.
