Taylor Swift and her exclusive concert series in Singapore are causing frustration with the Thai Prime Minister
Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin says she is disappointed that Taylor Swift is limiting her world tour to exclusive performances in Singapore, without visiting other Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand.
This has come to light through a possible secret deal in which Singapore would pay between $2 million and $3 million per concert for Swift's exclusive performances in the region. The deal has resulted in six sold-out concerts at Singapore's National Stadium, part of Swift's world tour, which recently kicked off in Australia.
Prime Minister Thavisin criticized the Singaporean government for obtaining this exclusivity in a surreptitious manner. He believes that if Swift had performed in Thailand, the event could have been organized more cheaply, with potential benefits such as attracting more sponsors and tourists. Despite the need for a significant subsidy to bring Swift to Thailand, Thavisin believes the economic benefits concerts can bring would have been worth it.
He expressed his frustration at the missed economic potential and added value that a concert by an international star like Taylor Swift could have brought to the Thai economy.

Aren't there more important things for Srettha to worry about in Thailand? Such as road safety and persistent air pollution?
Oh well, Peter, it just depends on where you put your priorities.
Why didn't he come up with that idea himself?
It is easy to comment with hindsight.
Smart move by Singapore
While the Thais complain like the Dutch, the Indonesians rolled up their sleeves and have a fund of 64 million USD available in no time, I read today in the Bangkok Post. This allows events such as the aforementioned concert to be arranged in the future so that they can find space there. If you are the Prime Minister, you arrange something similar.
Peter, she probably didn't want to go there, because you need some air when singing. 🙂
