A Dutch tourist has withdrawn a report of rape after she could not remember anything about the crime.

The woman visited a clinic on Phi Phi Island (Krabi province) in southern Thailand on March 6. She wanted to be examined there because she was convinced that she had been raped on the beach at night.

The police called in could do little because the tourist could not remember any detail of the incident.

Lieutenant Colonel Amorat Suthikait of the local police told The Phuket News that they were unable to help the Dutch woman: “She told us she got drunk and fell asleep on the beach. Then she would have been raped. We took her back to a number of places on Phi Phi Island to try to refresh her memory, but to no avail.”

The woman returned to the Netherlands yesterday.

  1. Khan Peter says up

Given the many rapes recently in Thailand where the woman in question cannot remember anything, it seems as if there is a pill in the drink. Has also been a problem in the nightlife in the Netherlands and Spain for a while. More info: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_rape_drug

I hope female tourists will be careful.
