The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is transforming an 86 rai land parcel in the eastern part of the city into a park that will function as a 'wetland forest'.

This initiative aims to increase urban green spaces and provide clean air to residents. The new park, which will open this year in Beung Kum district, is located on the site of the former Klong Lam Bung Kum, a catchment basin originally built to control flooding in eastern Bangkok.

Klong Lam Beung Kum, known for its ecological value and integration with local communities, has been transformed from a purely functional basin to a place for recreation and relaxation. The conversion of this area into a district park under the 'Bangkok Wetland Forest' (BWF) initiative is a logical step forward, given the presence of natural areas and its convenient location near Seri Thai Park and Nawamin Phirom Park.

The development plan for the park includes significant improvements, such as a 3.060-meter-long asphalt-covered walkway and a 420-meter-long waterfront walkway, both with a safety barrier. There are also plans for improved landscaping, new lighting installations, the installation of waste water treatment tanks and barriers to restrict vehicular access.

During a recent inspection, Bangkok Deputy Governor Jakkapan Phiewngam, together with other senior BMA officials, underlined the importance of public cooperation to ensure the safety and ecological integrity of the park. The district office has been tasked with monitoring compliance with regulations, keeping the park clear of vehicles and preventing activities such as alcohol consumption and lighting bonfires, which can harm the safety of visitors and the environment.
