Home » Living in Thailand » Video channel Thai Talk: What do Thais think of older foreign men in Thailand?
It is one of the well-known clichés about Thailand: Old men walking hand and hand in the street with much younger Thai ladies. An interesting question is, of course, how Thais themselves think about this? And if the image is correct why older Western men choose Thailand?
In 'Thai Talk with Paddy' Paddy interviews a number of Thai people on the street about this subject.
Watch the video below.
You see, all those stories about old men looking for a fresh green leaf, nothing true! Only 5 to 80 percent is there for sex and the rest for 'take care'. That reassures me!
But seriously now. How many people did he ask? How would people react who do not live in the city or near tourist spots? I think that gentleman's survey is so small that I would prefer not to give it any grade. Waist of time.
Erik,
Imagine the same interview in a Western European country. Vials of fury…
In the case of older European ladies with young boyfriends in African countries in the same situation (seen with their own eyes), only a bit of laughter is done.
Talk about hypocrisy.
Many think at the beginning of a relationship, with an often much younger Thai woman, that it is also about so-called real love with her.
Of course many of these older men feel in a kind of second youth resistance, when a much younger nice girl tells them everything they could only dream of in their home country.
Often this supposed sweet doll knows exactly what she does to the older farang with her smile and sweet words.
You have to be a huge oilball as farang to believe that she only chose you for your beautiful eyes and your further appearance.
Of course, at the beginning of our relationship I knew that her main concern was a carefree future and social security.
I would have feared her stupidity if she had only chosen me because I am 20 years older than her.
We have been married for 18 years now, see her every day that she still loves me after all these years, and reciprocate this love from my side, to take good care of her and to secure her socially.
What others think of this interests us both as much as whether a bicycle falls over in Hong Kong or New York.555
Can you explain what true love is?
I don't think true love can be described in a few words. But you again when there is. I still think daily of how my love looked at me with eyes full of happiness, a smile, something that says: I am very happy with you and my life is more complete with you in it. How she woke up one day and said how much she cared about me in Thai, only to realize she was speaking in her own language, which I barely understood at the time. That feeling makes you want to move mountains for the other. If your other half feels the same then there is real love and happiness. And what a third person thinks will be the worst. For example, there were Thai people who thought 'why do you take a younger farang with barely a penny to make? Take one with more money and that pays out sooner'. To each his own. As long as you are happy (satisfied?) and honest with each other as a couple, whatever the primary reasons for the relationship may be.
My suspicion is that it is not a concern for the average Thai. Thais are busy with their lives and their concerns. The average Thai does not judge others, is also culturally ingrained. With the mentality of: I can't change it anyway.
In tourist centers and/or neighborhoods with bars, this will be more disturbing for the local population as they see it every day. A Farang who lives drunk, noisy or inappropriate will arouse more disgust.
An interesting subject in itself, but such an interview does not say much. One man's opinion. I would like to see figures about the number of relationships between Thai and foreigners in the various categories, such as from which countries, age, etc. Also how long the relationships are maintained and the percentages of these are also broken down. With these results you could formulate more sensibly. Now it's wet finger work. But no matter how you get used to it, it is up to the individual whether or not to enter into the relationships and as long as it is founded on the right grounds.
At 3:44 I see some blossoming between these two
