Home » Reader question » Who has good experience with a transfer during a flight AMS – BKK?
Dear readers,
Usually I fly directly with EVA Air from Amsterdam to Bangkok but I think the tickets are too expensive at the moment. A flight with a company that offers a connection is usually cheaper. I did that once at the old airport in Abu Dhabi and I was quite disappointed. It was very busy and not enough seats while waiting. Long lines and chaos at the security check when boarding for the flight to Bangkok, in short, a mess.
Who has better experiences with a transfer and with which airline?
Regards,
John
You could try Norwegian.
Amsterdam-stockholm-bangkok.
You can also book a single trip.
Prices between 300 and 500 €.
Good luck!
Good experience with Emirates via Dubai. Good price, much cheaper than KLM, luxury, new aircraft, nice airport, enough seats to wait!
John.
I fly every year with Qatar Airways to Bangkok with a transfer to Doha, this is in line with Dubai if you fly with the Emirates.
comfort qatar is superb and you land at the brand new airport with monorail connection to the transfer hall.
the ticket prices are also always affordable.
sign up for the qatar newsletter and you will receive weekly offers.
success.
fr greeting ron.
Hello John,
I always fly Brussels Zaventem with a stopover in Abu Dhabi with Etihad. In the direction of BKK, you have time to walk around and have a drink, but on the return flight there is plenty of time to walk from one gate to the other and through security. Everything goes very smoothly. No more direct flight for me, but halfway to stretch my legs and walk around. 451 euros in economy round trip is my current ticket.
Dear John,
The only experience I have is the transfer in Dubai.
And this experience was just okay. Everything depends of course on your transfer times. Mine were between 2 and 3 hours, and that's fine. I do like to have a break, get out and stretch my legs
You said it yourself that the flights with a transfer are cheaper and on the other hand, your travel time will be longer. Good luck with it and have fun in Thailand.
Wim
Only have experience with Etihad, Emirates, and Qatar. I liked Qatar the best, both for the flights and the transfer. In my opinion, the airport in Qatar is much more relaxed than Abu Dhabi and Dubai. I can't remember for sure, but I thought there isn't even another security check when you go to your 2nd flight.
Dear De Young
When you arrive in Doha with Qatar you will immediately get a small check and
are free to come and go as you please.
I myself often choose Qatar for their good connection and no delay (and quality).
Sometimes it is a bit more expensive, but from my experience Qatar is the best transfer to Bangkok.
Yours faithfully,
Erwin
Emirates, departure Asd plus minus 1600 hours, transfer Dubai 3,5 hours. Outside of a comfortable A380 plane, you can stretch your legs, smoking areas available, and a welcome break from the flight.
Drinks are expensive, but 3,5 hours can be bridged with a soda. Success with it.
I have flown a few times with Aeroflot. Smoothly. Only …… in economy no alcohol.
Just booked with Emirates for January via airlinetickets.nl. Stopover Dubai, large modern airport.
Offer 480 euros from Amsterdam. Good luck!
Hi I have already tried many combinations, my opinion is a transfer in Dubai. You're sitting nicely halfway, stretching your legs. For me with Emirates, and there's plenty to see an hour flies by. Abu Dhabi is very messy, and you often have to take the bus to and from the plane. Good luck with your choice.
Hi John
Personally very good experiences with Chinese companies.
Consider China Southern Airlines via Guangzhou, or X.ian Airways via Xian, which is also recommended.
In short, courteous, with simply good service, and the waiting times are reasonable.
Simply,, fei chang hao,, or simply very good for a nice price.

Luo Ni
Emirates Please note the many options when booking. Oa. the flight times. 15 and 17 pm flight are ok. the intermediate stop of 15 hours flight has even been continued to the other plane, time flies so quickly. It's good to stretch your legs. the 17 hour flight flies by the intermediate stop pretty quickly, you have a little more time to look around and possibly. something to eat and drink. Furthermore, the different prices also pay attention, sometimes you have more options for little more, but sometimes also very expensive. Have flown with it before find the good service and helpful staff. By the way, if you have a membership you usually also get the things set in your profile in the cheapest class.
Best, also bad experiences.
Abu Dhabi: same as your experience.
Qatar: is better, but you are all dropped in a separate transfer hall. Outside the shopping area there is little to do. Arab toilets. Moreover, that transfer usually happens in the middle of the night. Good flights, by the way, but that transfer is nothing.
Istanbul: what a lot, absolutely to be avoided. Even if that was still at the old airport. I don't know if a new one is already being used. I haven't been back there.
Dubai: is a larger airport with more options. I know the airport, but I have no transfer experience there, because the flights from Brussels do not have good connections with Bkk.
Helsinki: is about the only place that does, but in recent years their prices have also become less attractive.
So far my experience, maybe it will help you.
We have very good experiences with Qatar.
Fine.
Last March we flew from Brussels with Swiss to Zurich and from Zurich with Thai Airways. This suited us very well, quieter airport than Doha, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Personally, we don't like the waiting time of around 3 hours in these airports, especially around midnight. Zurich was 2 hours on outward flight and 50 minutes on return flight. Entering the Schengen zone with my Thai wife went the Swiss way, especially very smoothly. We paid 660 euros, worth repeating if the direct flight from Brussels is too expensive.
agree with this, also continue with swiss is fine, possibly the same booking back via frankfurt naan dusseldorf with swiss and or lufthansa or directly with eurowings
Good experience with Swiss, and hear good reports about Finnair.
Early booking is the cheapest, pleasant trip / flight!
Take a trip from Dusseldorf
Eurowings direct lowest fare only 149,99 euros
Finnair via Helsinki return 500 to 650 euros
Ukraine international airways would only book the outward journey and only back to amsterdam via a long transfer to dusseldorf
Swiss via Zurich
luthansa via frankfurt
austrian via vienna
lowest fare one way on Wednesday. Not always but in certain periods. Or book very late on Tuesday evening last seats. This if you are very flexible.
I'm amazed at the prices. EVA air was not below 700, maybe Vliegtickets.nl put me on the wrong track. I took Airoflot again, 615, favorable times, 10 hours onward journey, good for a nap. But the transfer in Moscow went wrong last year, rush hour on arrival (18) so that the plane had to circle around until there was space. As a result, an hour transfer time was not enough, but after some stress another one went 3 hours later.
What might make a difference is that I booked today, and just about everyone has received their holiday allowance, and/or tax refund.
Dear,
We always fly Business Class, we usually go there for work and are then well rested and can start work immediately
Sometimes you can even fly cheaper in Business with OMAN AIRWAYS than KLM or EVA AIRWAYS in economy.
Last time I flew with OMAN AIRWAYS for 700 euros Return and Return via MUSCAT (December 24, 2018 and back January 05, 2019) in business class = comparable to Emirates. Oman airways flies with a new A330 from Ams of Paris to Muscat and from Muscat to BKK with a Boeing 787-9
Previously always flown with FINNAIR Business Class, between Helsinki and BKK that is the Airbus A350-900, but from Brussels, Amsterdam or Paris that is an old A319 or A320 – unworthy of Business class.
From now on we will fly with Qatar Airways because our son has been a pilot there for 3 months. Brussels – Doha – Chiang Mai (Doha – Chiang Mai via Rangoon (Myanmar) directly with Boeing 787-9 and sometimes with our son as first officer pilot (in addition to the captain – captain) Are then allowed to take off or land specially in the cockpit when landing or taking off
Greetings,
Andre
Unfortunately only bad experiences so far (coincidentally all with the same alliance): Austrian 2017: AMS-VIE-BKK: delayed 8 hours in Vienna. With Luftansa/Thai 2018: DUS-FRA-BKK: Route DUS-FRA canceled on day of departure. I'm going to try Emirates one more time this year, with, as I said, a cut exactly halfway through the journey.
oh sometimes you are unlucky. my worst experience is also et swiss via brussels. however, not by swiss but by the airport zaventem and the accessibility from eindhoven. 3 times but never again.
I am handicapped. wheelchair dependent.
best airports for this.
dusseldorf, zurich, vienna, kiev. just perfect.
only amsterdam, paris, doha, dubai, tehran and moscow
FinnAir via Helsinki good service and short transfer
live halfway between amsterdam and dusseldorf. Only want night flights. No direct flights from Dusseldorf. I have now flown from Dusseldorf via Helsinki (Finair), Istanbul New Airport (Turkish Air), Zurich (Swiss Air), Vienna (Austrian Air), Frankfurt and Munich (Lufthansa). All excellent BUT Munich and Frankfurt are huge airports. That is why the transfer times there are too short. All other airports mentioned require approximately 2 to 3 hours of transfer time. Is sufficient.
eh, why no night flights from dusseldorf? Eurowings do.
arrival bangkok around 7 am, return arrival dusseldorf just after 6 am
Booked last Saturday with BM Air From September to the end of March, 632 euros incl. booking costs with EVA air. Same trip with KLM now 770 euros.
Via Dubai with Emirates is super. Also the time distribution, approx. 6 hours flight, few hours break and again approx. 6 hours flight Planes very good, I think the best.
You can go with qatar
Layover in doha of 2 hours
Ticket price about 625 sometimes cheaper sometimes more expensive
Flying 14.00 p.m. from Schiphol
Back from BANKOK 02.30 am
Perfect service and the latest appliances
Just back with Swissair. We were very happy with it.
One and a half hours to transfer in Zurich and was no problem.
Flight and the service we were also very happy with. Speak good English and Thai flight attendants were also on the flight and my wife was very happy with that.
On the way there we had a delay of 20 minutes at Schiphol, but we did not have to rush in Zurich to catch the other plane.
Next time we also want to try Finnair.
fly Emirates
wonderful to stretch your legs halfway out of the plane
enough to see at the airport
enough chairs to sit
my favourite
We always fly to Phuket with Emirates, Etihad or Qatar. All fine. Small differences of course.
Abu Dhabi was not messy this year, as I read, but very well-organized. Renewed?
There are more than enough seats in Dubai and there was also enough space in Abu Dhabi.
I always look for tickets from Brussels, Dusseldorf and Amsterdam. Qatar often cheaper from Brussels, and Emirates from Dusseldorf. Pay attention to the stopover time.
Emirates has our preference because of the A380.
Good luck Jose

I'm going to try the Ams-Hk-Bkk route in business in August, with 4 kids.
With Cathay Pacific.
Normally I fly with Emirates, but because it is exactly halfway, that was not favorable for sleeping.
Dubai does have excellent lounges where you can eat well and have a nice shower.
I always found it very busy there, but you could easily enter the plane from the lounge.
I also did Abu Dhabi once, but I found that very chaotic.
Directly also done with KLM but that was a long time 🙂
