Home » Reader question » Who has experience with complicated cataract surgery?
Dear readers,
I am ready for a more complicated cataract operation and I wonder if there are Thailandblog readers who have had such an operation performed there? Can anyone recommend a good hospital or clinic from their own experience?
Does anyone have experience using an aspherical lens?
Here I have to wait until June and I would like to travel to Asia earlier.
Thank you for your responses.
Regards,
Peter

bumrungrad hospital good experience with the price
ruthin eye hospital has a good reputation itself no experience with it
https://www.bumrungrad.com/
Bumrungrad is good and expensive especially for farangs. Phayathai 1,2, and 3 are cheaper, belong to Bumrungrad and are well regarded.
Ruthin Eye Center I hear rave reviews about,.
I myself will have it done at Kasemrath International Hospital. It's standard surgery for me.
Because you speak of a complicated cataract operation, I would, instinctively, choose Ruthin.
Success.
Have great experiences with Rutnin eye hospital; Asoke in downtown Bangkok.
ruthin eye hospital Sukhumvit 25 if I'm right very good experience with it now 11 years ago had my eyes lasered with very good results. The price was then even cheaper than in NL and the service and treatment many times better than in NL. Been to a few places in NL but didn't dare to do it well and here within 3 days with tests and everything ready .. of course something different than what you need but this hospital is mainly specialized in eye operations
Greetings Jan
I recently completed super-sight surgery at Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital with success.
Dr Somchai has been doing the surgeries there for many years.
Costs Bht 250,000 but if you have cataracts you should get that back from the insurance.
The only side effect is seeing rings around lamps in the dark, this is normal but makes driving in heavy traffic in the dark a little less pleasant.
I am 62 and now see much sharper again and can read again without reading glasses.
Having a lens inserted in the BPHospital by Dr Somchai 7 years ago can highly recommend it.
Especially since I was very anxious and afraid of going blind had already lost an eye in an accident,
can you assure that with Dr. Somchai are in very good hands. Am now 77 years old and use +0,5 glasses
Bangkok Pattaya hospital in Pattaya.
Peter,
i had both eyes done about 11 years ago, 1 with multi-focus and 1 normal at Bangkok Hospital Phuket where the eye clinic is located, Dr. Captain young doctor (then) with training in USA. Fantastic, also aftercare, you are treated like a guest in a 5-star hotel and I could see better than in my youth.
I then paid USD 4.000 all-in, (partly covered by NL insurance because I don't pay for multi-focus) was done in 2 consecutive days. They have more modern equipment there than I have ever seen in NL.
I am now 81 and still read the smallest texts on smartphone and also excellent vision, last week I had an inspection for renewal of driving license in NL, received a compliment from the medical examiner with my good vision. (also to my delight)
Only for computer reading glasses because of the screen distance which is just between 2 focal points.
Good luck,
Thick
My husband and I were helped very well at the Ram hospital in Chiang mai. After applying for and approving the health insurance, we did not have to pay anything.
TRSC International LASIK center.
Google on the web. Located opposite Lumpini Park in Bangkok. Specialized in all kinds of eye treatments.
Was treated 12 years ago. Great result. Never regretted it.
Eye clinic Bumrungrad Hospital (Building A 18th fl..) Dr. Nate. Perfect treatment.
Rutnin is the top eye hospital in Bangkok.
True and only for the eyes. My wife was also helped for cataracts in both eyes from -10 to -2. She now reads without glasses again. Costs approx. 6 years ago +/- B.50000 per eye (insurance has paid) Does it all seem a bit chaotic and it can be busy.
In Thailand they do both eyes at the same time .. in Europe it takes weeks ... first 1 eye and later the other eye .. advise you to do that .. are your eyes!
In the Netherlands, there is indeed a 2-week waiting period between the eyes for standard cataract surgery.
In the exceptional case of cataract surgery under anesthesia, both eyes are often operated on the same day.
Dear Khun Moo,
Recently, the guidelines on cataract operations in the Netherlands have been adjusted and the 2 eyes are operated on the same day.
For more information about cataracts, cataract operations and artificial lens options, please visit the website http://www.helderoverstaar.nl
There you will also find a handy clinic locator to find a hospital/clinic near you.
it is true that the guidelines have been amended.
I also see in the text that the person in question mentions that it is a more complicated cataract operation.
In the Netherlands, simultaneous cataract surgery on both eyes is not recommended in the case of nystagmus, uveitis or severe macular degeneration.
It's quite a bit of a hospital to operate 2 eyes in 1 day on a patient. This is because of all the extra precautions to prevent the risk of infections. Not every hospital can handle this. So you will not be able to go to every hospital if you want to have 2 eyes operated on 1 day.”

Have a scleral buckling surgery with a lens implant at the eye clinic of the Srinagarind University Hospital of Khon Kaen University.
Well done, saved my eye.
I highly recommend that hospital.
Doctors and nursing staff speak English.
Thanks for all the responses!
I will contact Bumrungrad and Ruthin.
You can also read quite a few negative reactions on Google about Ruthin, but it is often about waiting times and not keeping appointments.
Think about that for a second. But not too long.
Dear Peter,
Waiting times in Dutch hospitals / eye clinics differ from clinic to clinic.
There are a number of ZBCs where you can go at short notice and the operations are fully reimbursed by all health insurers.
With https://helderoverstaar.nl/klinieken/ you can quickly find the clinics near you. Give them a call to inquire about waiting times.
Several people in this blog have opted for a multifocal artificial lens. That can have many advantages and it is therefore good to delve into it now. By answering a few questions on the homepage, you can quickly see whether such a multifocal artificial lens could be an option for you.
Good luck with your cataract surgery.
Hello Peter,
I am currently 71 years old and already had both my eyes done 8 years ago in PATTAYA HOSPITAL with doctor Somchai and everything complete with lenses.
And of course very satisfied.
Then I was insured and I had to pay a total of 195000 baht, of which I received 100000 baht back from the insurance, which was in 2013.
My best regards,
Edward,
Idd, Dr Somchai, supersight. 2nd floor, building B. In Bankok Pattaya Hospital. Very knowledgeable!
