Reader question: Walking routes in the Chiang Mai area
Dear readers,
I am going to live permanently in Thailand in November near Chiang Mai, Mad RIM to be exact. Now we take our dog with us and are looking for hiking trails in nature and nearby.
Now I find it difficult to find on the internet. Are there any of you who can give me good tips?
Bedankt,
Regards,
French
How so;
Do we bring our dog???
To Thailand????
That is not so easy, we already have several million stray dogs here, whole packs.
First of all, an airline will not give permission quickly, because they know they have to take the dog back.
Secondly, you will not get through customs, or very difficult.
And thirdly, walking in nature with a dog, it will not survive. The packs see him as “state enemy number 1” and will tear him to pieces. Before you join.
Anyway, walking in nature is dangerous for life, besides those packs, and they are really dangerous, you have poisonous snakes, crocodiles, elephants and much more, who don't like foreigners.
Maybe you don't know, but Thailand is a tropical country with jungle-like (dangerous) animals.
That is why there are organized trips into the jungle, with expert guides trained by the state.
If you are in Chiang Mai, first visit "Dutch Geasthouse" they have many excursions for very reasonable prices. Speak Dutch and can tell exactly what is and what is not possible.
Good luck Gerrit.
Yes, it is common knowledge that foreigners who go for a walk in Thai nature with their dogs never return. Many thousands have already disappeared or been found torn to pieces. You read it in the newspaper every day. Only Dutch Guesthouse offers protection. What a nonsensical response, just like your nonsense about bringing a dog. It takes some preparation, but it works fine.
I don't know much about ready-made walking routes. I've only seen them in national parks.
Well,
I agree with Gerrit, walking with all those stray dogs is impossible, unless you have a taeser with you. And then also a strange dog, completely impossible, you enter their territory.
No, that won't work, good suggestion from Gerrit, first go talk to Dutch Geasthaus,
Nico
Hello Frans, we live in Don Kaew, a village a few km south of Mae Rim and we walk around here quite often. In our opinion, Mae Rim itself does not have much to offer in that area, but one option is Green Valley on the east side of the 107 and the villages on that side.
If you have your own transport (actually indispensable I think) it is of course different because then there is plenty in the Chiang Mai area. Towards the SW of Chiang Mai there are eg beautiful parks such as the Royal Park Rajapruek, up the mountain Doi Suthep (road 1004) to the Royal Palace Bhuping and the Wat Prathat Doi Suthep. Further up there is a Hmong village in a valley which is also worth seeing.
Have you been in Thailand for longer?
MAE RIM
Dear French,
Are you going to live in Mad RIM or Mearim?.
That's about 25 km from Chiangmai!
Let me know because I know hiking areas in both places
Gr
I think you mean Mae Rim instead of Mad rim
N Mea Rim are many opportunities for nature walks. When you get there you'll see that soon enough.
Monks trail at CM Zoo.
Starts at the CM zoo, goes to beautiful temple on Doi Suthep mountain. If you google you will find the directions.
All that shit with the dogs, I go for a walk in the mountains or the rice fields 3 times a week, never had any problems with dogs. Always walk with a walking stick, they are afraid of that and if they bark too much I pretend to pick up a stone, they run off as if they want to break all records. Take a look at Chiang Mai Hash House Harriers, you can see if you want to walk organized, but at your own pace, but also with your own dog
I have been living in San Sai for 12 years 5 km from downtown Chiang City. I also have a dog but I don't dare to take the dog for a walk because there are so many aggressive dogs running loose. If you have a bitch, it will still be fine if she is not in heat. We often go jogging in Huay Tung Tao. That is a beautiful recreation area. There is a lake with all kinds of eateries around. Enough choice. The road around the lake is 3.7 km long. you can also go to a waterfall there, but it is often dry. There is also a 4.5 km route for runners, joggers and cyclists. There are also beautiful cycling routes just outside Chiang Mai.
If you want to know more, we can show you.
I live in Maerim and have 3 dogs.
Let them out in the morning and evening around my village.
Since it is very hot during the day, they can relax for the remaining hours and enjoy the coolness of the house.
Of course you will also see what there is to see in Chiangmai, but around Maerim there is plenty to see and experience and of course much quieter than in Chiangmai.
As far as wild animals are concerned, it's not too bad. Maybe a snake once, but it's more afraid of you than you are of it.
We are already half way into November, so come year or next year.
Greetingssssssss
