Dear readers,

When applying for my state pension, the SVB also requests information from my wife's ex-partner, namely:

– first and last name ex. partner
– his date of birth
– date married and divorced
– reason, divorced or deceased
– address and place of residence in which country
- his job

Can someone tell me why these questions, when it comes to my own AOW application? My wife has been divorced for over 20 years and her ex. has since passed away.

Thanks for your comment.

Regards,

Arnold

Just 'whatsapp' with SVB: +31 (0)6 1064 6363 (you cannot call).

Tell the officials that for privacy reasons it is not allowed by law to provide information from third parties to them, even information about your wife, they must request from her and you are not even allowed to leave.
The only thing you can think of is that it has something to do with the ex due to changing income and influence on possible alimony of your wife, but yes, since it concerns your state pension, they only need to know whether you are legally married and that is their known through the Basic Registration of Persons. So I would just ask them why they want to know this.

Do not respond to such questions. They are civil servants who believe they are allowed to set standards themselves. When we came to live in NL again in 2016, my wife was sent a written list of questions to determine her state pension in due course, was the explanation. She was asked what job she had in TH, what her monthly income was, what address she lived at, whether she owned a home, etc. I called that official and told him to concern herself only with counting the number of years that my wife would stay in NL in total. Then multiply that number by 2% of the AOW amount to which she would be entitled. He sputtered a bit, but eventually gave in.
