Reader question: Where are the most beautiful islands in Thailand?
Dear readers,
My girlfriend and I are going to Thailand for 4 weeks next year. We start our journey in Chiang Mai and continue our journey south during these weeks.
We are still unsure where to go in the south. There are of course many beautiful islands. We were first thinking about the Khao Sok National Park. I think this is on the Andaman Sea. Can someone advise me which islands are more beautiful? So the islands located in the Andaman Sea or in the Gulf of Thailand? We don't care about snorkeling or diving because we don't do that.
We are also looking for an 'affordable' cabin on the beach or with a beautiful view. Which island should you be on then?
I hope you can advise me on the above! We have been very helpful with it.
Thanks in advance!
Rutger & Evelien
2 hours drive from Khao Sok is Khanom, look it up in the Lonely Planet or Google, it is not an island but the mainland opposite the island of Koh Samui, you see Koh Samui and you imagine yourself on an island. The beaches are truly divine (if you can say that of a beach) and you can find all kinds of accommodations at all different prices. It's not too touristy and Charlie's Bar (CC bar) is well worth a visit.
It has also been written about on Thailand blog, look up Khanom on this site. Have fun!
Hello Rutger. Kaho Sok is a town in Rayong province. That's not what you meant. Then you have Khao Sok National Park. This is located north of Highway 401 in the south. There is no island called Khao Sok. The Thai name for island is Koh (with or without an -H-). Also take a look at what Monique wrote - it's correct. Please note that Koh Similan + Koh Surin (the most beautiful Thai islands?) approx. 60km in the Andaman Sea, in the west of Pangna-Khao Lak (Andaman Sea), are now closed. They will open again in November until approximately April. Just take a look at the website of the Thai Tourist Ministry (English) or at sawadee.com. I recommend Koh Chang to you. Easy and cheap to reach and something for everyone. Martin
All Thai islands have recently been mentioned one by one on Thailandblog, so I would say take a look at this site. but my top3 is: Koh Chang, Koh Tao & Koh Lanta. Have fun in this beautiful country.
We plan to go to Koh Kood, but are also thinking about visiting Koh Chang. This is because it is easier to reach and we then have 6 instead of 5 days at the beach. The only thing that stops us is that we think koh kood is nicer / more beautiful.
How can readers advise which islands you like? This is a personal taste. In recent weeks, the blog has devoted extensive attention to all islands.
Do a little searching here on the blog and you will undoubtedly find it.
Dear Rutger & Evelien, the islands in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are both beautiful. I've seen a few now and haven't noticed much of a difference.
I really liked Ang Thong (Mu Koh Angthong National Marine). That is a national park 31 km northwest of Koh Samui. You can also spend the night there.
Check out thesoukkohchang.com website, cottage on the beach, great food and very nice people.
Regards Jan & Marijke
