Reader question: How do we get from Phuket airport to our hotel?
Good afternoon,
We fly to Phuket in November. We have never been there so very unfamiliar. We booked a hotel in Katabeach.
We are very curious what is the best way to go from the airport to the hotel? What are the approximate costs?
Thank you very much for the response.
Sincerely,
Willem
Hello William,
it's been some time since I've been to Phuket (2008), but then I just went by taxi from the airport, you can get a ticket at the taxi distribution point and specify where you need to go, the price is then fixed. Make sure that the driver does not try to charge you for some vague reason (keep the receipt with you). I don't remember the exact price, but taxis in Thailand are very cheap.
Have a nice holiday!
Moderator: respond substantively to the question and not just to each other.
Just take a taxi about 500 bath. However, on the way there is usually a stop at a travel agency, they will try to sell you the necessary things, or the price of the ride will be higher, watch out for that.
A minibus is also possible, you can book this at the exit of the airport.
Jan
The minibus is one of the options. The booking of the minibus is in the reception hall. You can not miss it. They scream for you. Costs are last May 2013 180 pp Via a travel agency, halfway through the journey, where they try to sell you everything, you will be taken to your hotel. Do not make appointments in that travel agency !!! You are on the road longer.
If there are two of you, it is better to take a taxi. You can also get there for 500 baths. Be clear with the driver. 500 bath is 500 bath. You can pay for the minibus on site in the reception hall. I'm going by minibus. Only cheaper for me, but after a long journey from Amsterdam to Phuket you are not looking at 300 bath more. Have fun and take care. Or just a piece of advice.
The last time my wife and I went to Phuket was 2007 and of course we also took a taxi from the airport and somewhere halfway the taxi stopped at a kind of travel agency where a ladyboy with orange hair tried to sell us a supposedly better hotel. I had to restrain myself from laughing too hard, but yes, it's Thailand.
If they try something like that, just say that you have booked a room in the Arcadia Hilton Hotel, which is a five-star hotel and that will usually shut them up.
And on Phuket they also charge five-star prices for many things, such as 200 baht for a few slices of watermelon, while a watermelon costs 25 baht in most markets.
And in some places in Phuket a pint of beer costs more than in Belgium.
And especially don't rent jet skis there.
You have 2 options: Take a taximeter taxi, when you leave the arrivals hall you walk to the right, at the end you will find the taximeter stand, costs about 500 baht to Kata. advantage of the taxi meter, it doesn't stop anywhere, only at the entrance to your hotel.
Option 2 is the minibus, is 180 baht pp, but you travel with several people and the journey therefore takes longer and a stopover to sell you everything.
In the long term you can take the airport bus, which does not stop in Kata at the moment, this is currently stopped by local taxis in Kata/Karon.
These directions are current, bus to Patong is the cheapest and then by taxi or tuk-tuk to Kata. We prefer the taximeter located on the far right of the exit. 500 Baht is the rate, note that some drivers want 100 Baht more for so-called airport tax, this is nonsense and a scam.
Don't let yourself be intimidated by all kinds of pushy "drivers" as soon as you come outside!!
Have a nice holiday in Phuket!
As you have already read, the word TAXI is also known in Thailand. But a taxi tuk tuk in Phuket can be enjoyed with caution. Taxi tuk tuk drivers will notice in no time that you are a newcomer.
The minibus is the easiest and cheaper, but then you don't know which line=bus to take?. For people who go to Thailand for the first time, for example, I always recommend a hotel with an airport pick-up service. That may be a bit more expensive, but the hotel staff really know where to go. You certainly won't be cheated there. So I advise you; Call/write to the hotel and ask about the pick-up service. Or ask the hotel which minibus to take at the airport. If you have the address of your hotel - and I assume so - you can also find it on GOOGLE earth. Maybe the hotel even has its own I-Net site with a country map. Then you can see where it is located there. What a taxi costs?. No idea. I know where it is. Please ask the hotel. They usually know (experience) an answer to your questions. Martin
I don't think this is a question for the Thailandblog. Surely everyone has heard of a taxi. And if you have made a booking with a travel agency, then transport is no problem.
Mr. Hans stated that if you have booked with a travel agency you can also arrange transport there. True, but it comes with a hefty price tag.
Example: I will not mention the name of a travel agency. Bangkok Airport to Jomtien/Pattaya costs € 179,00 return. ,!!
I took a taxi for 1100 baht one way. They are there for less.
Airport Phuket to Patong €114,00 return!!
I really hate that kind of money grabbing, just disgusting.
Outrageous how travel agencies deal with this. Just so you know.
So the taxi there or minibus and have a nice holiday.
Jan D .
I just read that the OAD has been declared bankrupt. Before I put my story on paper about the prices, I knew nothing about travel agency OAD. Just sayin. Now I'll ask Globe travel agency how my trip is planned for October-November.
Jdt.
We have been to Thailand several times, and at the travel agency where we booked, the transfer was always included. So for us there was never a problem with transportation, so no need for a taxi and extra many costs.
The current prices for Patong range from 6 to 850 Baht. I think you will soon pay 1000 Baht for Marx and Karin. I was in Pa tong on Sep 6, 2013
