Reader question: Do you also have to apply for a re-entry permit when you extend your visa for Thailand?
Dear readers,
A question, when applying for a visa extension (extension) must one immediately apply for the 're-entry permit' or can one do this later?
If one applies for a re-entry permit multiply, one must fill in all dates when one wants to leave the country, can one or do one have to notify the immigration office?
Suppose you are unexpectedly expected to die in your home country, the Netherlands or Belgium, or a wedding is unexpectedly announced where you need to be present.
Thanks for response,
Georgio
you can use a re-entry at any time.
With a multy re-entry you can leave and enter the country as much as you want.
A single re-entry in advance in your passport is useful if you suddenly have to leave.
single costs 1000 THB and multi 4000 THB.
Bring a passport photo
Correct, but multiple costs 3800. Entries can only be used within the duration of the visa.
Georgio,
just fill in a fictitious date for your single re-entry, no one else checks that. Saves you an extra trip if you need re-entry. I've been doing it that way for years (take multiple re-entry because I want to be able to leave as often as necessary).
Regards,
Rob
You can always request the return later, but it means an extra visit to Immigration. I had to enter a travel schedule on the form the last time, but you can write whatever you want and always change your mind, no check afterwards.
“RobN” and “Erik BKK” are absolutely right. TM 8 form for Re-Entry requires planned travel details, but you don't have to stick to them.
TM 8 form can also be completed at the airport. Must arrive at least several hours before departure time or earlier.
Success.
Chander
Is the latter correct?
I thought this couldn't be done at the airport?
If this is possible, where do you do it? I assume sometime before passport control starts?
Thanks in advance.
You cannot request an extension at the airport, but you can request a re-entry.
See http://www.immigration.go.th/
Open the link, click through, change the language to English if necessary and the relevant text will then appear below the calendar.
At passport control (departure) I recently saw a counter with RE-ENTRY above it.
I had actually never noticed.
To give you an idea of where – If you're queuing up, this counter is behind you on the left, all the way in the corner.
Also seems like a suitable place so close to passport control.
I have heard that the counter at the airport closes at midnight and even earlier if they feel like it….
I don't know if that is the case, so better inquire if you decide to request your re-entry there.
It is of course better to always have a re-entry available in your passport.
In case you have to leave urgently for family reasons, for example, this is one less thing to worry about and maybe you don't think about it, even with all the consequences when you come back.
At the airport they take care of everything, not even a photo is needed, it costs a little more 1200 bath, the office is on the far left when you enter the airport.
