Reader question: Who knows a good fishing spot in Bangkok?
Dear readers,
I have been living in Bangkok for a few years and was a fairly fanatical fisherman in the Netherlands. I always look for beautiful and good fishing spots, but have not been able to discover one here in Bangkok.
In addition to the paid fishing ponds here and around Bangkok, I am looking for a place where I can cast my fishing rod. Who can help me with a good tip?
And do you need a permit for this (as in NL) or can you just fish in all public waters?
Greetings,
Dennis
in bangkok you have channels, a lot of fish present, you have to look for a good spot, there are plenty of them, just search, throw bread and the fish will come up, often close to a temple, also a lot of fish there because they are fed, small casting rod, and bread and goes well
greetings Jan
there are eels and catfish in every canal in bangkok
Can you fish at a temple? I know that the Chao Praya at the boat stop Thewet at Wat Thewarat is full of catfish. Really huge whoppers, thousands and thousands. But I have heard that you are not allowed to catch them there because of the temple.
But is that a monkey sandwich?
“Parallel” to On Nut Road/ซอย อ่อนนุช (=Sukhumvith 77 Road/ถนน สุขุมวิท 77) is the river Phra Khanong/คลอง พระ โขนง. In any case, east of On Nut 17 Alley/ซอย อ่อนนุช 17 (=Suan Luang Alley/ซอย สวนหลวง) the banks have a large part of walking/bicycle paths and occasional footbridges over the river. Very calm.
As Jan said, the area is teeming with fish temples. The monks feed (part of) the surplus food they receive to the fish.
I am not an angler, but when I was staying near there I went for a run along that river and noticed that in some places the water was very restless because of the fish.
I would say: Look up with “Maps” or something and take a look.
My mistrust of water quality prevented me from scooping them out of the water and putting them on the menu.
Yes, go to pier 15 in the river De Phra, always good luck, whether you are welcome I don't know.
THONGCHAI SEAFOOD; in Makassan; near EASTIN hotel. Very good fish at very reasonable price. You can point to fish. (around the corner from Pratunam market)
I myself fish a lot in fish ponds in Bangkok and the surrounding area.
So you have a fantastic lake in Bungsamran. There you can catch very large mekong catfish and other beautiful fish with a very large weight. I fished there myself 2x and caught fish of 30 kg and more. Another option is Tjomtjien fishing park (near Pataya). Not very well known, but very cheap. Also there you can catch catfish of 20 kg and more for 400 baht per day. Bungsamran has bigger fish, but you will soon pay 2000-3000 baht for a day. Furthermore, there is a lot of snakefish to catch in shallow pools all over Bangkok if you know the right lures, from 1 to 3 kg with a frog-like lure. I would say take a look at youtube there you have a lot of Thai movies about fishing in Thailand. You may get ideas there.
Good luck Hans
I don't know if this is still current, but I lived in Bangkok, about 25 years or more ago, in Soi Senanikhom 1 and there was a very large fish pond with boats and stuff. Maybe it's still there? The Soi is not far from Don Muang and Central Ladphrao.
