Dear readers,

This question because my wife does not have normal internet (too far from civilization). We can just receive 3g so we'll have to make do with that (no problem, then don't download or stream).

What I was wondering if there is a difference in terms of (signal) range, costs of data and so on if I use a mifi router or just tether from my spare phone (assuming that only 1 device is connected for the sake of convenience) .

Would be a shame to buy one if it makes little difference.

So are there people who have experience in both areas and what is your opinion?

Regards,

Maurice

in places where there is no internet cable light, mifi box is quite good but not fast.
I use it with laptop, iPad and Android phone.
    Works pretty nice and well.

    dear Mauce
I use a so-called Mifi with great pleasure and ease on our travels.
I do not install a local SIM card on the mobiles and use the M/WIFI signal to call with Skype, for example
If we are in Thailand, for example, I will buy a SIM card with a maximum of GB and I can operate at least 3 devices with the MiFi. I put the MiFi in my pocket when I need Internet somewhere else.
Tethering is also possible if you have enough data on your phone. But that, I think, is a lot of hassle.
In terms of cost, I don't see a difference and I don't see why there would be a stronger signal.
    Good luck John W.

I have 2 years of experience with the combination of a 4G sim card with 3 Gb download allowance from dtac and a huawei mobile wifi router that is fast, makes me completely independent of location and is safe in terms of downloads. Costs for the sim card 450 baht per month. Buy the huawei wifi router separately. To save the download allowance for important things, I buy a wifi card from true for 100 baht per month. It is secured and can be purchased at any 7/11. True's wifi poles are located throughout the country and have a decent speed for music downloads, for example (I use the ITUBE app for that).
I sometimes also use the dtac card to tether and that also works fine.
    Succes

I also live far from civilization and after a long search with all providers came in CAT, who were willing to place a pole of 15 meters high with a receiver on it (cost pole 3000 baht incl places) at my house now I have reasonable good internet (usually around 12 mb) download movies and music easy.

AIS pocket wifi 3G works great… saw the Vuelta live this weekend, streamed via the pocket wifi on the Smart TV, excellent image without buffering

Is there also no possibility to be connected to the Wi-Net via TOT? That's internet over the air. Here, where I live, we don't get cable either. But TOT has two transmitter masts here that radiate the internet and which can then be received via its own antenna. Fast enough for iptv and watching youtube videos. The price is the same as other cable providers.
When we moved here, our neighbors also claimed that we couldn't get internet. You can now see those antennas at many houses.
