Reader question: Does a birthday card arrive in Thailand by post?
Dear readers,
I have heard that if you want to send mail or the like from the Netherlands to Thailand, it does not always arrive. Now I want to send a birthday card to a girlfriend/friends in Pattaya. How certain are you that it will arrive?

If the address is completely and completely correct and preferably (also) in Thai, then the chance of correct delivery is high.
The chance that the addressing is completely and completely correct is small.
We did not state the address in Thai, the address was completely correct and therefore arrived normally. I have more problems sending mail to the USA or elsewhere in the EU that takes even longer and often arrives in very bad condition. I have a lot of experience with sending mail, which to my great surprise arrived really neatly and quickly in Pattaya.
I happened to send a package last week via Post.NL insured, you will receive a track & trace code. Package arrived on time within a week. This was also to Pattaya. No experience with normal letters / cards.
Just try it out I'd say 🙂
Addresses typed in capital letters are most likely to arrive.
Small letters are probably a little harder to read, so it's best to avoid them.
Otherwise, registered in an envelope.
After we built a small bungalow in the countryside, the mail from the Netherlands did not arrive.
NB ; a thai house number consists of the Lot number in the street eg 23/ behind it when you built.
so not automatically like in the netherlands first house vdstraat nr 1.
also forget the wykniet moebaan
My son lives in Jomtien (Pattaya) and I just send the mail to his address and it arrives neatly.
However, taking into account a day or 8 to arrive on time, if necessary.
And… it really doesn't have to be in Thai.
This is my experience.
If the exact postal address is used, the mail will arrive within 2 weeks.

I have a POBox myself and the mail always arrives there. Mail to home address sometimes goes wrong.
Several cards, letters and parcels have already been sent.
Cards and letters usually arrive after ± 10 days, sometimes during busy periods it takes about 5 days longer.
Parcels idemdito, but I have had a parcel that only arrived after 6 months, with partly missing content.
The mail to Bangkok (dozens of cards) - except for a single letter - all arrived. The letters to Khon Kaen arrived a lot less often. It can therefore very well differ per region and post office (longer chains in which something can get lost/stolen, postmen in the countryside who can read little or no English, etc.).
A good tip is to write the address in both Thai script and English.
Sent about forty handwritten postcards from Bangkok to the Netherlands in one fell swoop, left them with the stamps already on them at the counter of the four-star hotel: not one has arrived, not one!
This has nothing to do with the post, but with the hotel where you stayed. So it's best to take another hotel next time or bring them in by post yourself
No “Post” is responsible for mail not delivered to them.
Jos, We've had that experience too. We don't send many cards anymore But when we send some we take it to the post office and wait for them to be stamped. Success assured!
The hotel takes the stamps off for the money.

I can assure you 100% from Thailand to Belgium is cheaper than sending mail in Belgium and sending from Thailand is even faster. Delivered in Belgium in 2 days. So the reverse should also work… if people don't strike. Please note that shipping to Thailand is more expensive than vice versa. English should suffice
Have sent October 9, 20 cards from Bangkok to the Netherlands, all arrived after 8 days, but delivered at the post office
Have written 4 cards in thai and normal in the past.
Not one arrived, think opened, because they thought there was money in it.

Received on 31 August a empathic statement letter for my life insurance annuity payment, signed by a licensed doctor from a hospital in Lamphun city. Posted immediately afterwards via EMS.
So the day before yesterday 7 weeks later another letter from the insurance company that I have not yet responded to the signing of the empathetic statement.
Fortunately I had copied and scanned the first signed letter and saved it on a USB stick.
So yesterday sent by e-mail with attachments to the insurance company in the Netherlands.
Received an email today that everything is done.
The mail is only so-so from or to Thailand, e-mail works significantly better.

All cards, both from Thailand to the Netherlands and vice versa, have always arrived with me.
(Printed addresses in English for the cards to Thailand.)
You say you want to send a birthday card.
Just do it! Costs a few quarters and if it doesn't arrive it's a pity.
Last May three birthday cards were sent to our daughter and all three have not arrived to this day!
The credit card requested from the Ing in the Netherlands at the beginning of September and the subsequent letter have not arrived at my home address in Thailand.
