Want to make a tour of Myanmar from Thailand?
Dear readers,
Would like to do a round trip in Myanmar from Thailand, for example flying from Changmai to Mandalay and from Rangoon back to Bangkok. Fly or take the train in between.
Recently read a story about which airlines this is not too expensive to do.
Does anyone have any info for me?
Regards,
Martin
Dear Martin,
We did a tour in Myanmar from Thailand last year and that was fantastic.
The train over the Gokteik bridge is highly recommended.
Further tips are that domestic flights are quite pricey. Instead, you can very easily
travel by buses. They have wonderful VIP buses and you can book them in advance via this website:
http://www.myanmarbusticket.com Joyous Journey Express is also nice to travel with, but don't drive everywhere in Myanmar.
Don't forget to apply for a visa for Myanmar ... this is quite easy to do through an agency that
works with e-visas. https://e-visums.nl/myanmar
We went to Hsipaw and we really liked it…our great stay was at the Kumudra Hill – Mountain View in Hsipaw. They will also pick you up for free.
If you also want to go to Bagan, keep in mind that you have to pay an entrance fee for this city. We found it quite expensive and not all temples are free to visit.
In our eyes, the only drawback in almost all of Myanmar was all the rubbish fires. The air that was everywhere and sometimes irritated us a lot.
We really liked the sunsets on the beach of Ngapali.
We stayed at the Thande Beach Hotel – Ngapali. what a wonderfully beautiful part of Myanmar. This was also the only place where no fires were made ... so there was only a wonderful fresh air.
Hopefully this has helped you a bit further.
Yours faithfully,
Martin Step
Thanks Martine, I'll look into it
I went to Myanmar from Thailand for a week this year, just fantastic.
Flight bkk – yangon, 2 days everything apart there with a regular driver who could speak excellent english,
then a domestic flight to Bagan (I didn't think the price was overly expensive) and I thought that city was fantastic, not much to do in the evening but beautiful during the day and apart from everything with an electric moped, you pay a small fee at the airport and have nowhere to go afterwards. I thought I had to pay something
then took a taxi to mandalay but a detour via Monywa where I was able to take some super pictures.
also had a taxi driver in mandalay who drove me everywhere for 2 days and also spoke perfect english.
Then took a flight back to Mandalay to Bangkok
Visa easy to arrange online, bought a SIM card at the airport with 10 gig mobile internet, for a bargain price and mobile internet works great!
Have fun
We went to Myanmar a few years ago.
Greenwood Travel then arranged a lot for us.
There is more information on their site, you can also call or email them.
They are located in Thailand, Bangkok, Prince Palace Hotel.
See http://www.greenwoodtravel.nl.
Good luck, Jose
As usual, AirAsia is the cheapest - but it only goes from DMK. Flying from ChMai is usually quite expensive and not daily.
Note: Burma (Myanmar) is much poorer and "backward" (it is by no means untouched) as TH, and also a lot more expensive during the season (because of the great interest) for comparable places like TH. It is still advisable to bring a stack of cash US $ and of course you really need to arrange a visa.
Incidentally, as usual, you will still find many expatriates from Burma in ChMai.
Hoi.
My Thai partner (with her Thai passport) does not need a visa to stay for a maximum of 14 days. Belgians and Dutch, however, do. I applied for this on the Myanmar government website, and a few days later I received the email with the visa. https://evisa.moip.gov.mm/NewApplication.aspx# The cost is 50 USD which you can pay by credit card. You must upload a recent passport photo.
We are going to fly from Bangkok to Yangon with Air Asia, and we have booked that flight online directly on the airline's website. We stay in Yangon for 3 days.
From there we take the JJ Express night bus to Bagan. Also booked online. . https://www.jjexpress.net/buses/Yangon/Bagan
we are going to stay in bagan for 3 nights. Visiting temples, We are looking into possibly doing a hot air balloon ride...
From there we go by boat to Mandalay. http://www.mgrgexpress.com/ItineraryExpress.html
I booked this by email,
We will spend 3 days in Mandalay before flying back to Bangkok with Air Asia.
We are looking forward to…
Bring 1 dollar bills. At the airports in Myanmar, each piece of luggage is brought by a porter and you have to pay for it.
