Reader question: Are there Thai associations in the Netherlands?
Dear readers,
This week there was information on the blog about Dutch associations in Thailand. My wife is coming to the Netherlands soon. I would like to know, are there Thai associations in the Netherlands?
I do know something about meetings at a Thai temple, for example the one in Waalwijk. But are there also real associations that occasionally organize something and where Thai citizens in the Netherlands can meet?
If you know the associated website that would be great but all information is welcome.
Yours faithfully,
adje
Dear Ad,
Whether there are Thai associations in the Netherlands outside the temple, I dare not tell you.
There is a lot going on from the various temples, this is really a meeting place for the NL Thai. When my wife came to NL, I had the same problem, but it was later resolved completely by itself.
It depends a bit on where you live, but relatively many Thai people live here in Alkmaar and the surrounding area and one way or another they find each other naturally. What I did notice then is that the various Thai people are very picky with making new contacts, they are not Dutch people who just approach each other when hearing the same language in a foreign country, they first (almost all) look at the well-known cat from the tree.
So I would say just let it run its course a little bit and it will all work itself out 🙂
I don't know when she's coming but if it's soon I'd buy a thick coat haha
Rik
She already has the thick coat. She spent the winter here from December 2012 to February 2013. And she really enjoyed it.
Name,
In any case, a lot is organized from the Buddharama temple in Waalwijk for the Thai in the Netherlands.
For example, Loy Krathong is celebrated in Veldhoven on Saturday, October 19, organized by the temple, and there is a public holiday on Saturday, October 26 at the temple on the Loefstraat in Waalwijk.
As far as I know there are no specific associations for the Thai.
I know at least one club of and for Thai in the Netherlands: the Thaipride foundation based in Heerlen. Chairman and founder is Pari Lipperts-Janpoon. Tel. 06-47764029 or 06-27477111.
Success with it
Let us know where you live and will live with your wife in the Netherlands. I think it makes no sense to give you an address in Maastricht if you lived in Appingendam? Greetings. Martin
The Netherlands is very small compared to Thailand. An hour or 2 drive by car is only a short distance for my wife. I live in the Den Bosch area. We visited the temple in Walwijk twice when she stayed here for 2 months.
Adje::it is indeed better to wait until your wife is in the Netherlands.
The question is whether your wife really needs to go to such associations or temples. My wife has lived in the Netherlands for over 10 years, but after a few visits to Waalwijk and a party in the Brabanthallen and Mill they have had enough of the Thai activities in the Netherlands .
The only thing that counts there is how many gold rings you can get on your 10 fingers and how many arm and collars you can get on. It is also very important with how many euro flaps you can wave (by the way, necessary with the prices of the food and drinks ).
Of course there will also be people who think that this is not the case, but this is purely the opinion of our own (with Thai women) group of friends and your wife thinks it is all nice and beautiful, so definitely go and have a look.
Maybe people on facebook know about it
