Dear readers,

Is it true that if you are born as a Thai man and your passport or ID is therefore a man, he can have it changed later if he / she becomes a ladyboy? So have the gender designation changed to female?

Yours faithfully,

Bert

    Dear Bart

This is never possible in a Thai passport or on a Thai ID card. Thailand does not recognize this. The authorities do not plan to change this in the near future. I advise people who have a relationship with a Thai to always check their ID card for gender. Sometimes you can get surprises because some of them want to play the perfect woman.

The problem, I think, is that it is written in Thai and not everyone can read Thai.

No, not correct. For the time being , nothing can be changed on a passport .

Okay, so if you have any doubts about someone, asking "her" passport is a good check.
