Thailand question: are the Trang islands accessible in May?

Dear readers,

I intend to go to Thailand for 2023 weeks in mid-May 3. The planning was Phuket/Trang islands + Koh Tao. However, I understood that the Trang Islands cannot be reached in May. What is your experience?

I also wonder if everything is back to normal after the Corona misery (or still many catering establishments closed & little to experience)?

I would like to hear your response(s) here.

Regards,

Ronald

Thailand will receive more than 10 million tourists this year and 20 million are expected for next year. Do you think that many catering establishments are closed or that there is little to do?

I'm now in Patong, Phuket and it's very busy again. Many cheaper hotel rooms are sold out until 2 January. I have been traveling in Thailand since November 11. Before Christmas there was still reasonable vacancy, which can reduce the price of a room.

I wouldn't see why the islands wouldn't be accessible.
Perhaps the stormy weather can throw a spanner in the works for a few days.
An island does have a disadvantage and that is that it is difficult to go to it with bad weather and high waves or when you are on the island you cannot leave it.

As far as visitor numbers and related activities / catering are concerned, it will again depend on covid, I'm afraid.
The figures in China and the already suggested covid restrictions for Chinese visitors can seriously affect tourism and therefore the entertainment options in Thailand.
Especially because it could deter other tourists from making a long journey

Whether the 20 million tourists will be reached in 2023 is an expectation pattern based on figures where there would be no new major covid outbreak and everything will be as it used to be.
Unfortunately, there is no crystal ball.
