Home » Reader question » Thailand question: To Bangkok for 13 days and what should we do?
Dear readers,
We are going to Bangkok again in April, after 3 years, for 13 days. We have now been 30 times with my partner. We prefer Bangkok because of the many street food, Central World with the nice restaurants, markets and nice strolling around in Chinatown, and so on. (I've been to the north and south, but in recent years, Bangkok has been our holiday destination.)
Now a cousin is going with his wife and I'm starting to have doubts about what to do.
- Outside of the cycling tours, can we see nature or an elephant somewhere (without riding)?
- Where can we have a beer in the evening without ending up in the 'soi' (an alley)? We are staying in Sathorn ourselves.
- Does the crocodile farm still exist? What do you recommend for people who have never been there?
And then I fly with EVA Air for the first time and read bad reviews. That makes me a bit hesitant, because you want everything to be well organized.
Regards,
Carla

Dear Carla,
You've been there yourself like 30 times, and if you stay there for 13 days each time, that's 390 vacation days!
If you want to enjoy 13 days I would start with just 3 nights and in those remaining
Then you take your cousin with his wife to show Thailand.
Cycling tours outside Bangkok are much nicer and quieter and in Bangkok every cycle tour operator rides the same Bangkok routes.
Elephants can be admired all over Thailand and there are "reserves" where you can admire them and even wash or "bathe" with them
And a year ago there was an article on Th blog to promote crocodile meat for consumption.
Drinking a beer/wine on a terrace is possible throughout Thailand.
Moreover, there are about 50 mega shopping malls throughout Thailand. So for CentralWorld you no longer have to be in Bangkok.
Your cousin will be eternally grateful!
Hi , Thank you for your response , but I do not want to travel anymore and will therefore stay in bangkok now . I'm getting tired of traveling so much. That's why my question what can we do in bkk that is different. And where can I make a different bike trip in bkk. bv
Hi, Ancient City very beautiful I recommend you, large park where you can look around all day by bike or on foot with a golf cart, this is very worthwhile.
I am amazed to read this…. Been 30 times ... and still don't know anything ...
Anyway, here are a few tips: day trip to Kanchanaburi; kessel bike tours; boats down the river and klongs, lumpini park, khao san road for a beer
In addition to Ron's story.
Destinations: Bangkok – Sukhothai – Chiang Mai – Cha Am
I read this after surfing the net for a while.
10 days of basic Thailand for a 'small' fee.
Of course you can also do it yourself.
Other routes are also possible, of course, depending on interest and physical condition.
All this by train or transfer.[van will arrive shortly]
Hi Ron, Maybe I'm not clear. I know everything in bangkok and have also been to the north, south and burma. But I don't want to travel anymore. That's why we always stay in bangkok. I myself can enjoy myself with the food there cental world, siam paragon, china town, I can spend all day eating food and my husband will eat it. But I think my travel partners are not waiting to hang around the supermarket all day , I have also been to the places you mentioned many times . Thank you for your response .
Dear Carla, I see your confused reaction.
I do think that Ron and I cannot follow your train of thought.
You ask on Thailand Blog what you can do in Bangkok in 13 days?
And then you indicate that you know everything about Bangkok!
Would you like to entertain yourself with food in Central World, Paragon and Chinatown, but you don't want to do that to your travel companions?
You worry about the quality of EVA air, so go and educate yourself about that. Your fellow travelers will benefit more from that.
Read my first response again and let your cousin take a nice trip through Thailand with his wife.
Then you have something to tell each other when you see each other again at Suvarnabhum for the return flight.
I fly very regularly with Eva air (last January and again in April). Great society. So don't worry. Be on time at Schiphol, because you never know with possibly. queues.
We flew with Eva-Air in January and March 2023.
Nothing wrong.
Everything went on time and they regularly came by at night with drinks and sandwiches.
Nothing to complain about
Eva air, KLM, Thai airways whatever airline you fly from any airline you can read bad reviews. If I want to fly directly from Amsterdam to Bangkok I always prefer Eva air to KLM. So enjoy your flight with Eva air!!
Hi Carla,
EVA Air will never sell a ticket to us again, that's for sure. Spend a little more money and avoid the stress. We just got back from CNX to CDG and it was enough. Emirates is reliable. If there are those who fly further, use Trip.com and book the next flight yourself.
By the way, Taiwan is an annoying airport and the local culture is not at all comparable to the Thai one.
A friend of ours went through something similar with EVA Air, bad.
Incidentally, this experience is also for the frequent flyers.
At the airport of Bangkok / Suvarnabhumi there are machines to print the Boarding Pass for you. So no more waiting times for the check-in desks. I did that for us for the first time this time (15/3/23) and it works! If you want a different seat when the machine offers, I would first select your preferred seat with Seat Guru and go to the boarding pass machine armed with it. It saves a lot of time and fatigue. Incidentally, you can leave the large luggage at the special Big Bag Drop Counter.
At the moment, the central document for all flights is your passport, so you will also need that at the boarding pass machine. Because I knew the stories from Amsterdam, I was quite suspicious at first and just to be sure, I asked someone who had apparently done it before if he wanted to assist me and that happened, for the first time.
In any case, print out the itinerary before you go to the airport. By the way, I've used Trip.com a few times now and I think it's a lot better than the rest of the agents.
Success.
Dear Adam,
“spend a little more money”?
I think EVA has one of the most expensive nonstop flights to Thailand?
I myself fly EVA about 20 times, but I've never been to Taiwan for a stopover.
Simply board at Schiphol at 21.30 pm and the next afternoon you will be in Bangkok, after 11 hours of travel.
And back at 12.30 pm to arrive at Schiphol the same evening.
extra
moreover, EVA airways is again in the TOP2023 for 10 in the ranking for the best airlines worldwide.
