Home » Reader question » Thailand reader question: Traveling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai after ASQ
Dear readers,
Normally I will be released from quarantine in Bangkok on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. I would like (I am alone) to travel from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Unfortunately, I have heard that there is no longer a flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
Does anyone have the exact knowledge of what alternatives may or may not be possible?
Are the documents of the three negative PCR tests taken at the hotel sufficient to travel by bus or train or taxi “if possible”?
Thanks in advance for your answer.
Regards,
Gigi

Hi gigi,
When your ASQ has been successfully completed, you will receive various documents from the hotel and the affiliated hospital.
This will state which period you did the ASQ and will also describe the 3 covid tests.
In addition, you will receive each test separately on paper including stamps and signatures.
My documents were in English and Thai. If necessary, you can therefore show it with confidence.
Dear Gigi,
I was in the same case as you the day before yesterday, I came from ASQ in Bangkok and had to go to Chiang Mai. Unfortunately, flying is still not possible at the moment.
There are currently two alternatives: by train or by (private) car. There is currently one train per day that runs from Bangkok to Chiang Mai (train 109, which stops at Bang Sue station at 6:23 am). This costs about 500 Baht if you buy a 2nd class AC ticket, and you can buy it yourself online (https://www.railway.co.th/).
The alternative is therefore by car/taxi, this is a bit faster (+- 10 hours?) and more comfortable, but costs at least 7000-8000 Baht for a taxi.
So I chose the train myself, the ride was not too bad but takes quite a long time. Train left Bangkok around 6:20 AM and arrived in Chiang Mai around 21:XNUMX PM.
The documents you get from the ASQ hotel are sufficient, upon arrival at Chiang Mai station your documents will be viewed and most must undergo a mandatory rapid test. After showing my ASQ documents and stating that I have also been vaccinated, it was fortunately no longer necessary for me to have another rapid test taken.
Success!
Please respond to the above, I was released from an asq hotel on 12-8. I could only take a taxi and had to go to ubon ratchathani. The hotel had a provision with a taxi, both drivers were vaccinated and with all the papers of the hotel, I could go on the road. I left at 5 o'clock in the morning and arrived without roadblocks. The fixed price was 8000 Tbht incl gas, toll etc. Could stop where I wanted and buy food from 7eleven, also a coffee and a cigaret ... Think the distance is about is equal and it took me 7.30 hours
Absurd price, half Bangkok's taxi fleet is at a standstill, every tour bus permanently parked and the minibus for sale due to no customers in all of Thailand. Before Covid you could rent a minibus with driver anywhere for 2000 baht per day and fuel Bangkok Ubon return 1500 to 2000 baht. If a private taxi then 1000 to 1500 per day.+ fuel. Nice gift of more than 4000 baht extra. And yes, the toll in Bangkok is unnecessary because there is little crowds at 05.00 a.m. and yet it is already quiet in Bangkok due to Covid, if busy then a maximum of 200 baht total.
My response was to Hollander.
May I thank Founding Father, Mathieu, Hollander and Ger-Korat very warmly for their solid clear explanation.
Regards.
Gigi.
