Test & Go package or book separately?

Dear readers,

I want to fly to Bangkok with my family during the summer holidays to do a tour from there. Now I'm wondering with the Test & Go if I need to buy some sort of package? Or that I can also book the SHA++ hotel “separately”? And this hotel can email for a transfer with RT-PCR test?
I feel that the Test & Go packages I find are quite expensive.

Also I am wondering how to do that when I arrive at 9am on the 6th. Do I need to book a hotel for the 8th as we have to go directly from airport to hotel. Check-in will not be possible around these times. And do I have to book 2 nights because of waiting 12 hours for the results of the PCR tests? Or are those packages designed for that? So that you immediately have a room at your disposal?

Regards,

Kelly

Hi Kelly As far as I know you cannot book anything separately with the test and go program, I just got back from Thailand and to get the Thailand pass you have to either test and go, or follow the quarantine route.
You have to upload the following things before you get anything: flight ticket, proof of insurance, and your booked sha+ hotel.
My flight was changed (different number) and 40 minutes late arrival when I had to re-enter my
Upload new flight ticket to hotel and got new confirmation, then got Thailand pass.
So if you arrive very early, the hotel will be waiting for you at the airport, this is all well arranged.
    Happy Holidays,
    Rob

I would have waited to book. There are already many requests to the government to abolish this 1st test as well. And summer is still far away so everything could be different again. Currently it is better to start booking hotels 4 weeks before departure, because some hotels are not so generous with refunds.

    Hi Kelly,

I'd just put it in place.
    You're not leaving for months.
I'm going to Bangkok on May 5 and I'm not doing anything with Thailand pass yet.
The TAT is lobbying the government for full cancellation of entry restrictions.
Could be that even I no longer need a Thailand pass etc at the beginning of May.
Keep a close eye on the news on this blog.

    Sawasdee khap Kelly,

I would wait with booking a flight until the end of May, because everything can change thoroughly, hopefully improve.
Then I would book directly via, for example, Qatar Airways on line and my hotel, if necessary regarding TestGo, e.g. via Agoda... there you will also find the SHA + hotels with transport..; or you can visit the hotel's website. There is also a list of SHA+ hotels…. Transport to the hotel from Suvarnabhumi is included. But…. will that still be necessary? Will it improve or become regressive again. The crystal ball will decide!
    Chockdee Khap!

I would wait a while before booking such a hotel separately. There is a good chance that the requirement to do the 1st PCR test after arrival in a special hotel will also expire in the upcoming period. Then it's a waste of money. A designated hotel in Bangkok (or vicinity) is always booked quickly enough.

    Dear Kelly,

You will only go in about 3-4 months, would just wait and see.
Also in Thailand, the tests are now being scaled down, perhaps by then only a mandatory PCR test will be necessary to travel to Thailand (just like now, by the way) and the entire Test & Go program will be cancelled,

You will receive the Thailand pass within 7 days at the latest, so plenty of time to quietly await developments. And indeed many hotels are difficult with refunds or charge administration costs in case of cancellation, it seems that it is becoming a kind of revenue model.
We are now in Thailand and see in Pattaya, Jomtien and Bangkok that (also large hotels) are simply closed because there are few tourists, what is open now may be closed again later.
Then try to get your money back, my advice Kelly, book about 2-3 weeks before departure.
Have a nice holiday in advance.

A family usually consists of 4 people and that adds more than 300 euros to the total travel sum. And then I have 2 children. Money is very personal, I think. A taxi from Bangkok airport to the city is also 500-600. bath if you convert it to about 14 to 15 euros, a pittance compared to our prices, but still...I just take the city bus there for 60 bath...You just can't look at other people's wallets, so I say.

Completely agree, a PCR test in the Netherlands easily costs € 80,00 per person.
For an average family, this is an extra cost item of € 320,00.
And depending on the destination, a PCR or antigen test in Thailand is also necessary.
All in all, a lot of hard-earned money that you can do nicer things with.
Just hoping that the PCR tests will be canceled and only an antigen test will be needed.
Then the costs remain somewhat limited.

        Small correction:

……depending on the destination, traveling back to the Netherlands or Belgium, a PCR test or antigen test in Thailand is also necessary.
Antigen test costs 550 baht (€ 16,50) at the airport,
A PCR test costs approximately 3000-5000 baht (€ 85,00-140,00) depending on the desired time you want to wait in terms of results, which can be seen on various websites when you Google for PCR test Bangkok.

For additional information for Dutch travelers.
For a direct return flight with KLM, only an antigen test is required to travel to the Netherlands, so do not be persuaded to do an unnecessary and more expensive PCR test, if you are flying with another airline, a PCR test may be necessary. So check the website of the airline you are flying with before departure to avoid unpleasant surprises just before departure.
